Hughes has scores of 4 and 0 on his home track. Is he really the best we have to replace Katich? Really don't think he has much to offer, hasn't made many runs this summer. Yes he may of scored runs for Australia before. but at the moment he isn't in form.

who is this beer guy, id never heard of him 2 days ago and now he's in the test squad. selectors are really clutching at straws now, scary for cricket fans in this country.
Marsh has opened for WA and made runs- more in the One Day comps though... Correct me if i'm wrong but i believe Marsh also opened the batting for Australia in the series up in Darwin a few years ago...
And you can't pick Hughes on his current form, he's having a great shield game isn't he? 4 and 0 in two innings!

it's Beer's first season for WA and he has looked pretty good, but i agree with most people about his lack of experience. His height will certainly help on the WACA pitch..
He will be 12th Man for sure, and the only reason he was picked was so that everyone else who is actually in contention has every opportunity to play for their respective states and no-one is held up in Perth carrying the drinks.
If he is indeed 12th man, I think the selectors have done a half reasonable job.
Eventually, I would like to see Marsh opening, Watson at 6, Smith at 8, and one of the quicks (maybe Johnson or Siddle) dropped. Kahwaja and Ferguson can fight it out over the domestic season to see who replaces Hussey after he retires at the end of the summer.

Hey mate, Hussey is in amazing form.. he is averaging over 110 in the ashes and he is our best batsman at the moment. I always hate it when ppl are getting ready to replace someone that will supposedly retire when they are playing freakishly. I'm just not sure what everyone has against Hussey
I reckon Hussey will still be around next summer. One of my favourite players. Is great to see him in form. Can't wait to see him on the WACA deck. He has scored so many runs there, i can see another big score on the way.

Aaccording to one of the aussie selectors on fox sports news beer has a really good shot at playing and they may play beer and smith and drop one of the quicks
