For anyone purchasing games through the Steam client beware!!!
Yesterday I purchased the upcoming Medal of Honor game on a pre-order through Steam.
Cost, $69.99 USD
Now another member of my clan purchased the exact same game which cost him $59.99 USD.
This member lives in the US.
He went into Steam and sent me the browser link to the purchase page, when I opened the same link the price had changed to $69.99
This is the screen shot of what he saw.

Anyone in europe or anywhere else in the world, if you have purchased this game and paid too much ....
Do as I did and send Steam a 'Please Fkn Explain' email.

Games cost different amounts in different countries... he is paying in USD you are paying in AUD... there's ya difference... they don't really go off the currency exchange. Australia has some of the highest priced games in the world. It's not a consipiracy, it's regional marketing.

No, my price was in USD too mate.

Im pretty sure the prices are meant to be like that because I remeber them being different when Left for Dead 2 came out

No postage needed with Steam, you pay for an electronic download of the game.
You never receive a hard copy of it.
From what I can ascertain this is their usual practice.
One price for the United States and everyone else pays more.
My question is why do people put up with this?
Well its been almost a day and they haven't even replied to my email.

Its because games are MORE expensive in Australia, PERIOD. We pay $100 for a game, the US pays 50 to 60...period. Steam is the same, and that's why you won't get a response... mighht not be a currency difference, but it's just a natural fact. We get ripped on EVERYTHING.

CDs = $12 in the US $30 here.

If you want the game cheaper, get ya american friend to buy it for you and gift it.... just send them paypal if they use paypal a lot or something.

Just got a reply from them.
Pricing is set by the developer, in this case I can imagine that would be EA games.
No point even taking it any further.
As you guys said, we are getting shafted on prices for everything here in Australia.
Good idea about the gifting from member in the US :thumbsup:

This is in reference to hard merchandise in australia and the pricing difference. Think back to when the AU$ crashed in 2001, back when it was down as low 0.38 US$. Under mister Howard's orders, Peter "Ferret face" costello fixed our import rate at that US$ value. So now, even though our dollar is way stronger than it was back then, we are still paying crash rates. And don't forget all of the taxes that Johnny's "All Inclusive" GST doesn't cover - shipping, import tarriffs. Furthermore thank Little Johnny Howard for floating the Aussie Dollar on the international Market back in 1981/82 when he was treasure under Malcom Frasier - at a time when the AU$ was worth more than the US$.
