The Real Reason I've virtually stopped collecting

So you know... I have done hardly anything recently trade/sale wise.

The reason behind that is Australia Post or USPS whoever is responsible for killing a dream.

Spreefan had done an awesome job in procuring me an Isaiah Rider printing plate... one of my dream cards....

Only... it never showed up at his place - but the envelope did!

How can one really keep on going when the big dream was ripped so horribly and unfairly from them?

Rider 1/1's (even 1/4 printingplates) are F***ing hard to come by - with several of them in a collection I'll never have access to....

the dream appears dead and with it.... my enthusiasm.

*sigh* I'm not even in a hurry to get KG number 500....

sorry to say but stuff not turning up from the post , being ripped off , overpaying, underpaying, these are all part of the hobby... as sucky as they may be when your on the recieving end.

yeah post is very worrying lately but i'm sure another rider 1/1 will show up some time and it will be even sweeter

this was the first of many not to turn up recently for me, but this one in particular was from a mate in the u.s and also had a lebron james 03-04 topps chrome golod refractor bgs 9.5 inside. i could not make a paypal claim for this one and alot of time has been lost chasing those 2 cards that were lost (also alot of $$$$)
i have recently made 9 paypal claims to get money returned and i would have to say that it isn't the mail system in most cases but shonky US sellers

i have just opened 2 more paypal claims today and both sellers have stated they have sent my items , only problem is that they both stated that they posted them more than 2 weeks after i paid for them

Makes me question, who in Aus post collects cards?
I recall my bro show'd me a PM from a forum member (from here) who was a postal worker and how they can "mark parcels" a certain way to ensure they arrive safely.

That in itself is worrying!

Damn, it's sad when something so uncontrollable like this happens, and it really has such a negative effect on someone such as yourself AJ.

I really think you should reconsider, but of course, that's just my opinion, and not what you should do, that's entirely up to you.

I've had a 1/1 plate not turn up before too, sucks SOOOOO bad, but nothing you can do.

So you got an empty bubble mailer from the US? wow thats random!
was there anything in the envelope? How was it opened? was it resealed? Was it insured or registered etc.? Was there a customs declartion form stuck on it? What was the description of contents on the form? How clearly was the address written? Trustworthy seller?
I think it VERY STRANGE that someone handling mail would open it, just take out the contents and carry on sorting/delivering the empty envelope. I mean I know it would definitely happen from time to time, but possibly something made this parcel particualarly prone to theft of this kind.
Sorry for all the questions, im just really intrested on how and why this happened. I know it isnt helping your frustration. If the same thing happened to me i'd be in for a break as well, but i would be back in full force in no time, just gotta stay positive. Good luck mate.:v:

Man, sorry to hear bud

It does suck hard, especially on the irreplaceable stuff.

As many know, I lost a stack of EE's, including a ZO jersey Numbered one. It was a huge dampener on my collecting, as yes, it was fully insured and tracked, but yet somehow, god made it dissapear on me. Many other stories I can add to this.

Very good point..I have thought that myself.I have slowed heaps myself.I have lost heaps this year.But When ReG'd mail goes missing & no tracking shows it ever exsisted ?

It's been a month since i paid for it & still no refund from the seller or Aussie post
This is what's gone missing #41/50 ,if anyone ever see's it anywhere

Tough luck, mate. Bloody Aus Post are shocking at the moment. I had some cards coming via registered mail from QLD to Vic, and they've somehow manage to lose them, despite the fact it's registered mail.

Pathetic bunch, at the moment. I used to work for them.

I do believe it was damaged by the mailsorter and the cards could have simply fallen out and some probably unscrupulous worker has found them and thought bingo.

If it was a modern player I wouldn't care so much you know they have plates coming out of Topps' arse...

but Rider doesn't have very many 1/1s.... I know I'll come back eventually... not like i've stopped completely but I just have no enthusiasm... because not only was I gonna get a dream card it was going to be an absolutely fantastic gesture from an awesome forum member....

Gotta know its bad when I am not even trying to chase down KG #500

happens to me exactly like that..

but some autos and jerseys including exquisite base didn't even turn up last month and this month..

it's really annoying.. sorry to hear about that AJ..

That sucks big time, a card that rare too, it was the older Stadium Club plate wasn't it? Very hard to find those things.
I have had mailers and envelopes turn up opened in the mailbox before, one had a $10 note hanging out of it! Payment for a card, lucky the postie had bought his lunch with him that day I guess lol.
I think I've bee very lucky with that, only lost a few mailers in my time, of those I have managed to recoup funds for all but 3 or 4 of them.

Is there anything the postal system can do? They have automatic coverage on anything sent now, you should be able to file some form of claim for it.
