Following on from a post I have recently read on blowout, I thought I would start the Poor Man's / Povo mailday thread! Not everyone has the big bucks to splash and we all love our cardboard, (yes, I am guilty of buying high end flawless!)
I do dabble in some lower end stuff (Miami Heat autos from the 90s coming in at $1 a head) and get some great satisfaction and love from the hobby with the lower end stuff and completing collections. That's what it is all about.
I thought I would share a couple of cards, feel free to send your Poor Man's cards to this thread, let them shine!!
Alonzo Mourning 1992 Classic Draft Pick.
I picked this up the other day for a great price of $3.45, I really don't think that would even cover the grading submission price. Had to have it purely based on the fact I couldn't understand why anyone would want this card graded:
1990 Hoops Billy Thompson on card auto
I picked this up a year ago, I like this card for a few reasons.
1) It makes up part of my Miami Heat autograph set featuring players with over 100 games for the Heat.
2) It is a reminder of the first pack of wax I busted 25 years ago, those plastic wrappers were amazing and the cards inside were just as good!
3) The addition of 'praise jesus' is a nice touch.
Last but not least in the poor man's thread is the following.........
1992-93 Upper Deck Terry Davis on card auto
As a collector of Ed Davis and Heat players with 100+ games (Terry qualifies) - I had to have this card. It took me around 6 months to find a Terry Davis auto. When this appeared on eBay I had to have it. I overpaid for it $10+ USD incl shipping approximately but it's from one of my favourite sets in 92-93 UD and the auto is clean and crisp.
The hobby is worth a lot to many people for many reasons, these are just a few for me. Often, the poor man's card remind us all why we collect.
I hope others can post their poor man's mailday's! Set those cards free!
Cheers,
