The last time Panini America’s base Playoff Football brand was released, the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl, the Nebraska Cornhuskers won the National Championship, the World Series didn’t happen, “Forrest Gump” was No. 1 at the box office, Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan became household names and a Clinton was in the White House.
The year was 1994 and back then, Playoff Football dazzled collectors with little more than high-end card stock, cool photography and a star-laden checklist. Clearly, a lot has changed in the last 22 years — and many of those changes will be reflected in the triumphant return of the Playoff Football brand when it arrives in hobby shops across North America on Wednesday.
As you’ll see in the revealing Quality Control Gallery that follows, 2016 Playoff Football offers an expansive celebration of some of the most beloved aspects of Playoff’s proud history, including classic inserts such as Star Gazing, Boss Hoggs, Air Command and more. On average, each hobby box (eight cards per pack, 12 packs per box, 20 boxes per case) will deliver one autograph, one memorabilia card, 12 Rookie Cards and 24 inserts or parallels.
