The Official 2012-13 EPL Thread

wenger expects RVP to stay. just like he expected him to sign a new contract last season? he should stop thinking everything will go the way he wants and start buying up replacements. then even if he dont leave theyll have a bit if depth.
usain bolt says cristiano is better than messi. i guess that settles it...but does anyone care what he thinks? hes probably just sucking up to fergie in the hopes of securing his trial. he goes on to claim that training with crisitano and teaching him how to sprint properly is the reason why he went on to score 40 goals. says uniteds biggest weakness is in the sprinting department.
charity shield match was a good one aswell. 4 good goals and the last one...

like he'll ever get a proper run in that midfield. poor move on his behalf and poor buy from city...
Not a poor buy at all. It's looking likely that De Jong will be moving on, Gareth Barry is moving on in years. Rodwell is young and capable...he'll have a solid role to play...

Good win for City - some cracking goals - none better than Tevez's...he looks sharp as a tack....
Dunno about this 3-5-2 system City are playing...almost feels like it's being designed in order for Kolarov to play without having to defend. He's a good cross of a ball, has a cracking shot but change a team around so a back can attack more?? Mancini knows way better than me of course...

meh. dejong wont be leaving this year. barry isnt too old yet, and isnt toure still about? i just meant he wont be playing all that much in the next couple of years, which will hurt his already small chances of making the england sqaud. and a bad buy for city because there are dozens of better players than rodwell at that spot. if youre going to buy replacements for world class talent, id buy someone a little more proven. at best rodwell is solid player. nothing special tho...

Agree he's nothing amazing but Yaya Toure doesn't play that defensive role anymore. De Jong hasn't signed a new contract. Milner played a more attacking role yesterday...he can also play CB - he's 6'2' and we need depth there. Kolo Toure is a poor 3rd option as CB and has been rumoured to be leaving all off seaon.

I know u were exaggerating but there aren't dozens ahead of him. Maybe 2? Sure he'll watch plenty... but he'll also play a lot of cup stuff and learn from the best..
I guess it's a choice he's made... I don't reallu understand why Everton would sell him... their fans must get sick of it...

Nice little pre season win for the Anfield men. Good to see Carroll getting on the score sheet with a nice 20 yard strike, wit a little help from the keeper. Would really love to see Carroll have a bounce back year this season.

yeah it was a very slight exaggeration, but if you look internationally theres certainly more than 2 DM better than rodwell?! was that an exaggeration? hows about: moutinho? diarra? khedira? cambiasso? mascherano? busquets? alonso? or even just in the epl: song? lucas? delap? parker? jagielka? murphy? essien? tiote? diaby? and thats just off the top of my head...
fair enough, they would all probably cost more than 12-15mill, but you get what you pay for. all the above players would force there way into the city 1st team no doubt, and not have to sit around waiting for someone to leave or get injured.
not trying to have a go at rodwell, just suprised me that with unlimited funds and a team almost anyone would want to join they went with a mediocre englishman...?

Sorry, thought u meant in the City lineup!!!! No way he's 3rd internationally!! Perhaps Mancini likes his versatility. He may see him as cover behind VK and Lescott cos Savic isn't up to it...
City can't just go buy anyone anymore. FFP is coming up... we've had our big spend.. virtually all our players are young or mid 20's so well be set for a while...

If an English quota comes in he's another key player. Whether that ever happens or not I dunno...

/\/\ that makes more sense.
my main point is @ 15mill, they couldve got someone better. theyre probably thinking about the homegrown quota like you said...

It was 12 mill, possibly up to 17 depending on appearances etc... then players actually have to be available which isn't always the case. Teams are resisting City or upping prices - see Agger $22 mill De Rossi $50 million - yeah right....

maybe its because i dont really rate rodwell that well. hes just not that good, and they wouldve done better to spend just a bit more and get some real quality. i think they couldve got one of the players i mentioned for around the same price, or near 20mill.
the poorness of the buy for me is in the price they spent. fair enough teams may be upping prices for city, but if youre going to overpay for a player, make it someone worthwhile...
obviously just my opinions. not trying to change your mind or anything.

I don't know him that well so hard for me to comment too much, we'll see how he goes...

Jose Mourinho - The 'Only' One

i guess hes right.

and no one wants joey barton. QPR did say theyll give him one more chance, but i cant remember how many chances ago that was?

Such a waste of talent. I remember around 06-07 when he was talked about as the next star midfielder in England, to bad he can't stop from being a douche. It's a pitty because I liked him as a player not to many seasons ago.
