I really didn't know what to call this thread - nothing really does justice to what I have been given.
I'll get some other stuff out of the way first....

Firstly this is some mail I've been waiting to show since about August....

I picked this one up on ebay......

#21/199
Goes well with this one....

#21/75 -

A nice pair of underpants!!

Always like putting little sets together....

Then I got this one.....

#21/99 - also adding to my Duncan #21 collection! (Now at.....2)

A while back I also bought this privately off an ebay seller....

KG420.jpg

#21/50

Cost me nearly as much as it's friend here....

This one is #21/25....

Then last month I was able to win a pretty neat card....

The cool thing being it's jersey numbered and from 99-00 - Old school jersey #'d cards are like hens teeth - impossible to find

Here it is....

Since about August though my #21 collection has been drifting towards the abyss. I've gotten something like 11 cards all year and most those came in about Feb or March.I was truly losing interest in the hobby - and that's after 7 years of DAILY focus on my collection. Having 4 kids on top of that I was thinking seriously about pulling the pin and selling up. There is another KG jersey #'d collector in Japan who would have taken itall in a heartbeat.

Then an opportunity came about

Two awesome cards came on ebay - a #21/25 03-04 Exquisite jersey, and a #21/25 06-07 dual patch/auto KG/D Howard. I had money and I was ready to win one!!!! :woot:, hopefully the exquisite.

I lost them both via snipes and was crushed.

I wrote about it here at the end of October....

http://www.ozcardtrader.com.au/forum/basketball-general-discussion/108706-demoralised.html All the good wishes were terrific and I also received several pm's from people as well....

A week or 2 after that Matty sends me a pm asking for my addy as someone as something to send me..... I duly oblige with interest as anyone does who has received such a message. I had NO mail coming in so I was curious as to what was in the post. However nothing arose so after a while I thought nothing of it....
Then a week ago he says the sender is about to send me something.....

It arrived today and to be honest I am still stunned. I know I'm going on a bit but this card deserves it....

It came up on ebay about 6 months ago and I SOOOOOOOO wanted it. I thought it would be beyond me financially - it was within a day!!

It skyrocketed up past $100 and finished well beyond anything I could afford. I think it went for between $170-200 but I would be guessing. I also had no idea who won it.

There were a number of reasons why I wanted it but I'll let this video do the talking.........

Take 3 minutes and watch it

This card was made in 04-05, well before KG was a Celtic - some genius at Upper Deck saw the similairities between the desire of KG and Bill Russell and put them together on a card.... as far as I know it's the only Twolves KG/Russell card - there are plenty of them now he's a Celtic of course.......I know there's a /5 version of this card but there aren't 21 of those!

I have no idea who sent me this card - Matty wouldn't tell me but I honestly got a bit of grit in my eye there for a second. I've worked very hard on my collection and this card is now one of, if not the jewel in it.....

Without further ado cos you're probably ready to see wtf I'm talking about!!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for whoever sent me this.

I know you knew it'd mean a lot to me but it means more than you think. I'm gonna keep collecting because of you, even at 10 cards a year, I'll be gunning for 200.

Another reason I REALLY wanted this card is because I have these from the same 04-05 set.......

I am still gobsmacked.
I looked back in my little collection bible and ironically (u can't make this up) I have been gifted 21 cards!

This one takes the cake though.

To my secret Santa - thanks again - I know you're address but not your identity!!!!

Merry Xmas everyone. :)

That's a really great card, but an even greater story.

I really love to hear stories of kindness and giving, especially when the card ends up in the hands of someone who really appreciates it.

Also big shoutout to whoever did this; whilst you remain without name, you clearly aren't without thanks.

Great story and AMAZING generosity shown with this gift. Kudos to whoever sent the card and I'm glad it has stoked your collecting fire again.

Well well well, secret santa has done it again. I think he needs to own up so we can heap praise on him for the good deed.

Couldn't have gone to a more deserved collector i reckon, you're #21 collection is pure awesome. Glad you've been put back on track with the collection too, would have been sad to see you quit after all these years.

The card is awesome, the story is awesome and the generosity is very awesome  ...and your KG #21 collection is .... well it's ok.:woot:

I recon whoever sent it should be feeling pretty damn good at the moment, obvious the receiver is. Well done mate =D>

That's why I love this site ... Everyone Is so cool here ... Love the story man. Love that It's keeping you In the hobby ... and I love seeing that KG / Russell Interview over and over again ... Amazing mailday man. Obviously the holidays have been extremely good to you so far ! :v:

Im glad you got it Al...couldnt have gone to a better person (despite being a Kiwi)...and the person who gave it to you is a top bloke and a stand up exquisite kind of guy!

again..well done to all!

Wow Al, that is a gem!!!

Great Xmas gift mate, just a brilliant card, especially having the other two to go with it.

Has the other KG jersey # guy got a bucket? Do you know how many he has?

Keep on trucking mate! Your collection is famous among us collectors and it would have been a sad day for us all if you decided to call it quits.... Awesome gesture which speaks for itself really, big card, big sig and a big heart. "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man." - great Simpsons quote! Keep it up #21!

Thanks for all the comments and encouragement. I feel a bit spoilt!
Skip20 - especially impressed with the Simpsons quote!!

U lot aren't bad for West Islanders....

Wow, what a brilliant story and gesture :)

Although this time of the year often brings out the worst in people, it can also bring out the very best.

Geez it's a ripping card too mate :)
