The Australian cricket non-official thread!

One thing I have noticed in the BBL this year is the significant drop in catching and fielding standards. The Heat have been particularly poor although the Renegades had brilliant hands last night.

My young fellas first BBL game, he had a blast, definitely up for more next season. Unfortunately all KFC buckets were gone 2 hours before the game, he was a bit upset by that but plenty of other freebies.

I now see why Australia is so far down the ICC Rankings in ODI Cricket now. We are a dumb team, really dumb. So many pointless dismissals.

Yes.

Concerning is Warner and Smith's form.

Still, they won Ashes 4-0 in a gruelling 5 tests in 6ish weeks. These ODIs mean nothing. Give us a final and I bet Aust win.
Interesting the bats who didn't play tests were better in this ODI series. Same with bowlers (not that I think that is an issue).

Still, the run out of Head was the catalyst for dumb and dumber batting.

My ODI XI/squad going forward during 2018 looking towards 2019 ICC WC:
Carey
Head
Finch
Khawaja
Smith
Maxwell
M Marsh
Lyon/Zampa
Hazlewood
Cummins
Tye
J Richardson
Starc

50 Over cricket certainly appears to be the dying form. My interest only really peaks in a WC year.

Credit to England, they were excellent. Well led and lots of players stood up, add Stokes to that squad and watch out.

The Head run out was bad but I was referring more to the Stoinus and Marsh dismissals. What happened to hitting the ball in the carpet?

Marsh has really arrived as an International Cricketer this summer. Batting at 5, love his aggression but just needs to not give his wicket away after looking so good.

Anyway, enough from this armchair expert, we win the Ashes and that was the big one!!

Smiths form im not so worried about......but Warner's definitely.....also not sure whats going on with Starc as well.....doesn't seem real happy.....think the injury is still hurting him on delivery.

But you are right, these ODI's really mean nothing in the scheme of things these days.....outside of the World Cup none of these series matter anymore.

I can't see why Australia can't organise a ODI Tri series where Aust include NZ every summer.

Like what they're doing with t20 series.

Aust vs England in Australia x 2 in Australia. Aust vs NZ 1 in Oz, 1 in NZ and NZ vs England x 2 in NZ. Can raise to 4 games with same ratio split.

Make ODI wins go towards WC qualification and seeding too.

Aust should be playing 2-3 more tests per summer too esp in January.

Summers should be:
Summer 1 - England Ashes 5-6 tests;
Summer 2 - India 4-5 tests, 2-3 before against WI or Pakistan etc;
Summer 3 - South Africa 4-5 tests, 2-3 vs SL
Summer 4 - WI/Pakistan 3 tests, NZ 3 tests (Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney).

Mid year 1 - 3 tests vs WI/Bangladesh at home
Mid year 2 - Ashes tour
Mid year 3 - WI tour
Early year 4 - India 5 tests

Early in year still NZ and Sourh Africa 3 and 5 tests.
End of year 3 tests vs SL, Pakistan, Bangladesh

Good to see the Scorchers out IMHO. Good for cricket, good for BBL.

Even my son said, whoever wins this BBL gets to be the next coach of Australia. He wants Dizzy. My head is spinning.

Well today curtainly wasn’t our day. Bowling was shocking, worst I’ve seen all year. Sad when we save our worst for the biggest game but that’s the way it is. Few questions raised though, Wade not opening? Who’s call was that after he just came off a match winning 70 odd opening? McDermott LBW? Was watching with a room full and before we even seen the reply we all called it, was missing by a mile. Embarrassing call by that umpire. And in the first few overs Canes had a massive LBW appeal turned down, why was no reply ever shown? Never saw that ball again. Yet when Short dropped a catch we saw the reply 12 times. Yes I’m bitter, and bloody angry

Solid T20 win by Australia last night. Great to see a raft of fresh faces picked on BBL form. Even better to see Punter back amongst the brains trust!

Stanlake, Tye, Lynn and Maxy were great. Warner still looks out of sorts with the bat.

I must say though, if our U/19's are the cream of the crop the future is a bit bleak. We were lucky to beat England, a freak bowling spell was the only thing that saved us. India were far too good and now that they are not letting their societal class get in the way of selections they will continue to grow. With such a huge population and a genuine love for cricket they will continue to be one of the best cricketing countries in the world.
