The Australian cricket non-official thread!

What a dramatic few nights we've had in the BBL, starting with Sam Billings' almost clubbing the Sixers to a miraculous victory over the Hurricanes. Then came Ashton Turner's match-winning 70 off 32 deliveries against the Renegades - and with it Hoggy's unfortunate dropped catch. Wednesday night was "obstruction-gate". Last night's game was lit up by a couple of current Test players. First was Usman Khawaja, who revisited his form of two seasons ago whilst compiling a thrilling 85 from 51 deliveries. Not to be outdone, Cameron Bancroft (75 off 56) and Hilton Cartwright (65 off 41) added 137 to almost snatch victory.

The current season has needed a run of close finishes - it has been a little bit "ho hum" so far I think. Whether it is traditional Test cricket, One Day Internationals, BBL or even the Sheffield Shield/Domestic 50 Over competition, the essence of cricket lies in the contest. This week has had more twists and turns than an Agatha Christie novel!

Additionally, I'm SURE I heard Mark Waugh say "JESUS!" at some stage during one of the close finishes this week. Regrettably, I haven't yet heard the audio of Mark Taylor having trouble with the "f**king telestrator" - an aside which apparently made it to air on Monday!!

Finally, let me say this: I love Gus the Goose!! I know it's a puerile, juvenile gimmick and best suited to people with a short attention span. Actually, that's in my wheel house!!

I love BBL.

I don't have to care and can just enjoy watching.

I think some of the imports have been lower quality this year and there are some skinny squads. But they're entertaining enough.

Next year will need to see some overhaul. How CA couldn't let Warner play a game for the Thunder last night and fill the house against a low drawing Perth would have given the game a giant shot in the arm. There is some talent on benches not getting games who could be shared around too.

Made the trek tho Sydney for yesterdays BBL games. Interesting experience to say the least, gates were to open at 2.00pm, jumped on the end of the line five minutes before the gates were due to open then got a announcement they would open at 2.15, 2.20 and then 2.30 with the WBBL match start pushed back to 2.45. 3 more delay announcements before the poor bloke announcing it finally said they werent even giving him a estimated time anymore.
By 2.45 they started handing out bottled water and blow up hands, when the gates finally opened about 3.10 they were giving out $20 SCG food vouchers. Turns out they had loose roof panels on one of the grandstands and the WBBL match finally started at 3.30. Scored another 3 $20 food vouchers on the way to our seats.
When we found our seats what should have been reasonable seats turned out to be terrible. The signage, tyre etc they had set up for the Kuhmo $100k six comp was blocking the view of up to half the field for about 50 seats.
Went and had a chat to one of the attendants who kicked it up the line to her supervisor who kicked it along to his boss. He came down and straight away apologised and got the marketing and ticketing people over to take a look.
Came back just before the break in the WBBL match and advised everyone effected they had found alternate seating for us, not as close to the action but at least we could see the entire field.

Glad they fixed the seating up for you. Tipping they had not sold seats for that area before. All other Sixers games have been half empty so no issues finding alternate seating.

Wish I had seen the $20 vouchers! I too arrived just after the scheduled gates opening times and lined up forever in the heat with two kids not too happy about waiting! Didn't see any of those vouchers, and forked out a small fortune for food as per the norm with kids lol.

I just booked tickets to the last Heat home game on 27 Jan.

Almost sold out two weeks in advance.

This will be the first game for my 6yo son as normally I am at work when these are on or working at the game.

He is super excited, desperately wants a KFC bucket and a Heat thunder stick, hope they are still giving them out!

That's awesome mate, we all no how fun and exciting these bigbash games are, your young boy will love it, I'm sure they will still be giving all that away, me and my son try to go to every game also

I am glad that I am able to go as a spectator for once, it will be my Dad's 71st birthday that night so we have my brother (another cricket tragic), sister and her family coming also. It should be an excellent night.
You will love it mate.

My kids have been to every Thunder game this year. They love it. Have several buckets they wear - they give them out at every game. get face paint, do all the kids activities and there are always plenty. Spotless stadium is great as the activities are inside the stadium so you can watch the cricket while they play. SCG is different it's all outside. Not sure what GABBA is like, however I am sure they will love it. Enjoy! Great time of year.....

BBL is by far the best value for money to go and watch. Nearly 1000km return for us to get to a game but have been going to one game a year since the old state based T20.
I agree with wookie spotless is better than SCG but its only the SCG Sydney darby that is a double header with WBBL and BBL.
Will be interesting to see what they have in Wagga this weekend with WBBL matches on both Sat & Sun.

Thanks mate! I think the Gabba activities are outside the stadium but I will get there early to give him the full experience.
Yeah the activity are behind the training nets mate, near Stanley street . It's also the only double header we have had up here wbbl
Heat vs thunder girls starts at 12 or 1pm I think mate

Spare a thought for the sixers, Roy has had 2 seasons with them and yet to produce a game changing innings. They lose him to international duty and first game out he blasts 180.

Was at the Thunder previous to that and did even worse than at the Sixers. Might have to get him to wear his England jersey under his bbl one!
