Steady start by the Aussies, knock on wood..

So what do you reckon: Will the Ashes be ours after this one? Or will we have to wait a little longer?

again another low score for hayden. his position as a opener is starting to be in danger specially phil jacques performance (dont know why his not there yet?)

C'MON Monty!!! =D> Definately good for the series, but I'm not real keen on the Aussie team anyway, so I'm stoked... Nah, to be fair it's just a few of the Aussie players I don't really like, but it seems to be the most vocal players also, so it puts me off really getting behind the team somewhat... Just my 2 cents...

Two wickets for the aussies..... would have liked to see another.... but it sets up for an interesting morning tomorrow! Just hate waiting so late in the day in the eastern states to see it LOL

See, this is what annoys me about the Aussies: They appeal for anything that goes near bat or pad, and now another class batsman has been given his marching orders unjustly! It was shown on the replay there was no contact, the Aussies go up anyway, and he's given out! Same thing happened last day in Adelaide with one of the English batsmen... And don't tell me McGrath's dismissal makes up for it... (Ooh, no! McGrath was just about to cut loose and score a double ton, too...) That's why I don't like a fair few of the Aussie players, and don't respect their record as much as most do...

sorry axeman, but thats a load of crap

Its a bowler's right to appeal, the umpire doesnt have to give it out

Yeah, but it's not the bowler's right to appeal after everything that goes within 5 cm of the bat, or hits the batsman no matter where he is in relation to the stumps or how high on the pad it hits him... Also, I'd suggest having excessive appealers "teched" and if they keep going, send them off. That's soon curtail the ammount of appeals coming for the hell of it...

I mean, do you support going down at the slightest contact in soccer, or staying down after a fleeting head-high, and just let the umpire deal with it? If that's gonna happen, fine! But punish those who appeal unjustly, or continue appealing after it's been given not-out...

I still dont agree, the bowler can ask the question whenever he likes, its still the umpires call...If its not out, then its not out, move onto the next delivery, but wheres the harm in asking a question? :)

COME ON AUSSIE!

edit: i do agree with the comment about keeping the appeal going after its given not out, thats not on, but asking the question, is just that, asking a question

It projects a bad opinion of the bowling side, for one thing... Ok, put it the other way, if Ponting got out like that, would you be spewing? If Harmison and Flintoff appealed every second or third delivery like Lee or Warne do??? I feel sorry for McGrath in the Aussie innings, but it's not a game-changing decision IMO... But when someone who's a game-winner gets given his orders, that sucks... And the Aussies do appeal way more than other teams...

Just saw the second half of your post, that's a fair comment... =D> I just get tired of people talking about these "world-beaters", when they seem to get the other team's "match-winner" out with a dodgy decision more often than not. But as you say, the onus is sort of on the umpire, but who REALLY thinks the ump who gave Strauss the arse will be dropped? I'm willing to wager he wont be...

Another thing that gets me is all the bloody chatting by the Aussies in the field... If you wanna chat the batsman up, get his number after the game, mate... They talk about the "intimidation" factor", but what? Bouncers/sand-shoe crushers aren't enough? And for all the talking they do, the Aussies are piss-poor at taking it back...

I think its all in good spirit, and its not like its a new thing, Ian Healy was a great one at it, Rod Marsh, etc...Its not just this current team, althought Warney is one of the best...

But you get that in all cricket, i cop it when i go out to bat in local cricket (it doesnt help being a #11 ) but its in all forms of the game, not just Tests and not just the aussies
