Following a strong week of steady previews and behind-the-scenes peeks that have raised anticipation to buzz-level proportions, Panini America’s 2014-15 Excalibur Basketball is now safely on its way to Target stores across the country. In the coming days, the product will make its way to store shelves with its three distinct SKUs (Premium Box, Blaster Box and Gravity-Feed Packs) equipped to live up to the hype caused by such inclusions as Kaboom! and Crusade.
Just this morning, we managed to get our hands on two early boxes of the Premium version of the product, an eight-pack, 120-card thrill ride that delivered a slew of highlights. The gallery that follows documents the entertaining experience and should provide additional details on what Target-shopping collectors might expect from the highest level of Excalibur.
Enjoy the pack-by-pack breakdown and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued coverage of 2014-15 Excalibur Basketball.
Firstly, I wish they had just named this 14-15 Crusade. Excalibur to me just sounds tacky...
naming a product after a fictional sword of King Arthur?? really??!! Marketing are that flat on inspiration right now?
I really like the base card design, even though its slightly similar to 12-13 Flawless in its simple design and being 90% white.. I still like it.
I expect a very deep base set, or you'd nearly finish a full regular 100 base set in 2 boxes.
Absolutely loathe the crusade prizms... just complete rubbish with the colors and the die-cut.. wth?
Juggernauts insert??? nope, just doesn't do it for me.
The dunk co. relic, nobility and majestic marks look like nice inserts and I really like the Rookie Rampage cards.. looks like even the high numbered #/349 cards have patches... they could have made these on card autos and they would be an incredible chase set.
In saying that, I hope for the collectors sake that there is on card autos in this product.
The fresh faces relic insert.. meh.. what are those 4 lines on each side?? just supremely lazy design.. then they think 'lets round one of the corners off! ground breaking stuff!!' smdh
Then to top it off, throw in the Kaboom insert, previously a case hit from Innovation... looks totally out of place in this product. ah well.
Once again, very happy that this is a US retail only release.
