Why is it that someone who earns nothing more than $13,500 in a year has to pay so much damn tax? Don't they know the cost of living these days? I maintain anyone earning under $15,000 PA should be tax exempt (and those earning more should be more damn giving - I for one would be all for paying more tax if I earned more than a bloody pittance)!!!!!!

Also does anyone know if an employer fails to pay enough tax for you (ie the 17%) you have some sort of recourse with Tax department? Cos my employer paid about $450 tax when he shoulda paid like $755... I currently have a return of $50 - if he had done the right amount I'd have a 350 return!!! I'm so pissed off.....

I mean aren't our employers supposed to ensure paying the right amount of tax???

I'm so annoyed I could have done with $350 right now. I hate tax time it makes me feel like shit.

oh yeah I know that but they keep getting tax cuts... while people who struggle through life are still forced to pay out tax... I think it is wrong.

Thankfully, if my goal is achieved, I won't have to complain after the new year..... cos I'll be one of those higher paid people getting all the tax breaks.

Thats good to hear, next year you will be complaining about how much tax they take off you.

Congrats on the new job. :D

Its very simple....i get my work to pay a little exrtra tax each week (dont even miss it) for a nice juicy return each year...sort of like forced savings:D

Yeah I could never afford to do that... the issue is my work never paid the rigth tax in the first place.... LOL

and Gomoto... as is I am complaining about the tax level.... no new job yet but I intend to have one by the new year (entering training in August), and I will!!!!

On a higher income I won't at all be complaining. I'll consider it my due to a country and a society that isn't as bad as some.

Hmmm no, because while there is a percentage out there, that are perfectly healthy (mentally and physically) but just incredibly lazy, and truly bludging.... I believe a lot of long-term unemployed have never received the true help they need, whether it be counselling, or genuine training, or maybe someone to sit them down and ask them what they wanna do in their life and help make ithappen if reaosnable, or explore othe roptions if that person is totally dreaming.....

I know for a fact several of the job agencies here in Launceston don't give a crap about anything other than, as it appears, keeping you on their books so they keep getting funding or whatever they get for supposedly/allegedly helping you find work.

Thankfully I chose wisely with my employment agencies and have support chasing a genuine career and guidance and access to facilities ot help me sort myself out mentally/eotionally, without it I'd be still floundering with no confidence.

Okay that was a huge social spew... I just believe most people can be helped..... and if only the right help was found, so I have no problem giving them my tax dollars if the Govt and other agencies cannot be stuffed truly helping.

c'arn AJ, I work for one of these employment agencies...trust me when I say they DONT get money for having you on their books, its rather the opposite. We are rated on how many people get jobs and stay in them!

anyways...

HECS has been my major killer this year, I was doing the online tax return, and Im getting $1200 back...then I do the HECS question....now I owe them $800! My gf was worse....she was getting back $2200 now owes $400 with the HECS question!

dont you have HECS deducted from your pay each week/fortnight/month Trey? i know i do, cuts into each pay but saves getting a bill come tax time!

Damn, sounds like this HECS is a killer.... is that for Uni students?

AJ, when you say that your return is $50, wouldnt you say your employer paid the right amount, (ie = not too much) rather than the wrong amount (ie = not enough)....

If you done your return and had to pay money out... then you could complain....

My fiance had a problem with her boss not witholding enough tax.....to the tune of $900.00!!!

Every tax time the fiance would always get a refund with all the deductions she has to make. Last year she had a tax bill of $900 to pay.....not happy at all!

he paid $450 tax, when he shoulda paid $755..... while yes I appreciate that I get $50 back.... I am frustrated that it wasn't done properly so I coudl make the most of what little tax offset I do get.... as I said to a friend in IM just now its only cos I owe so much money that this is bugging me.... lol

but you just got the money every week?

its not like the $$$ has gone missing, you just got it week by week.

Id prefer getting all my $$$ so I could chuck it in a savings account and score 5.65% interest!

HECS......... I curse at you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I forgot, back in the day there were no uni fees untill.........the dole bludger came alone. Thats why l feel sick when all my taxs dollars go to those people. They should supplement the uni students HECS debts.
