Suggested change to postage and packaging rules

Just throwing it out there for consideration as to whether its worth requiring members to consider registered post once a deal reaches a certain dollar value.

I ask this as a current deal I have in progress with a reputable member who I have dealt with many times before has gone missing. I am waiting on an auto, pieceworks cards and 6 other inserts. I do believe the other member when he indicates he posted the cards that is not the question but because its was not sent registered post I may loose the cards and the dollars I have spent.

thoughts, is this practicable or necessary???

No, both parties should have worked it out whether they wanted registered post or not. BTW, don't you need proof/receipt that what you sent is worth as much as you claim?

i agree however it means nothing. i bought a few cards of crg, registered mail. they have gone missing i have the registered number but there is no tracking for them, but he scanned me the registered receipt so i know they were posted. so like wtf aus post.

There is no tracking number for registered that you can track yourself...... but if something goes missing AusPost can investigate where it went.

aussie post can't do much with tracking an item, it's not as if they put a gps unit on every package.
when you post an item the post shop scans it, so it says it's in the system, when your postie delivers it he scans it too.
there is nothing in the middle.
so all aussie post can tell you is if the item was scanned at the end and it's with the postie or driver. or it's still in the system.
if it gets lost before it reaches the postie then there is no trace.
registered post is a bit of a joke really, and keep in mind that something registered is probably valuable,
if it's not documentation and it's something chunky then it's also tempting for a postie to take a peek when out and about.
was just recently a postie i worked with was pocketing reg' post coming from a certain retail store, they were gift cards, but he got caught 'cos he actually went into the store himself to cash them in, aussie post security are like the fbi, suits, dark glasses ect,
they came in one day, stood there until he returned from deliveries, and that was the last anyone has seen of him.

there is only one type of mail that is considered high priority at aussie post, it's aussie posts golden child,
express post.
it's the most important mail 'cos it's next day and they use express mail to guage how efficiently they deliver.
after 6pm when express starts rolling in, everything else stops almost to process it.
express post platinum gives you registered/insured post aswell and that's the only way to post big ticket items.

btw, when claiming for high $ items lost when registered/insured, you need to show proof of value like an invoice.
you can't just say, oh we traded some cards and he sent me a $500 card and i sent him a $500 card that he didn't get.

AT least you have up to $100 insurance, which is pretty much the main reason for using it, apart from proof of purchase.

Nope, ALWAYS (since they changed the insured post postage type and changed it to Registered only post over 10 years ago i recon) been rego and express both get scanned and you can track(depending on how lazy they are at the PO)REGO always gets scanned on delivery - ready for pickup....

From what I've experienced, with more expensive cards its probably best to pay the extra and get Express postage; much the same as always using a top loader and a bubble mailer to send cards not because if you don't they will get damaged but because they might and its better to be safe than sorry.

So about the whole proof of purchase thing, are you saying that registered or not, if your $500 Jordan auto that you just traded for goes missing in post, it's bad luck as you technically can't prove it worth?

Or if you bought the same card on an eBay auction you could use the auction as proof of purchase?
