Battle of the Smashers 2

Cricket great Steve Waugh returns to the crease when he captains a team in Battle of the Smashers 2 at Drummoyne Oval on Sunday, 18 December 9am-6pm to raise funds for the Steve Waugh Foundation.

Steve will be joined by a host of celebrities such as NRL stars Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence, Chris Heighington, Paul Gallen, Nathan Hindmarsh, NSW Origin coach Ricky Stuart, NRL boss David Gallop, league legends Paul Sironen, Brad Clyde, Hazem El Masri, football great Mark Bosnich and Daniel Smith from the Sydney Thunders - to name a few.

The day will start with champion NSW Breakers playing Queensland in cricket's answer to State of Origin. This Twenty20 game features some of Australia's best female cricketers including superstar Elyse Perry. The Steve Waugh's Warriors will then play the Canada Bay Exiles.

City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said: "We are really excited to having this great charity cricket event return as Battle of the Smashers 2 and supporting such a worthwhile charity which helps provide children suffering from rare diseases with a fighting chance and somewhere to turn. The support they provide to these children and their families is life changing."

Once again teams will play for the Archie Jackson Cup named after the famous Balmain cricketer who entered cricket's history book as the nation's youngest player to score a century on his Test debut when at age 19, he scored 164 in the infamous Bodyline Ashes series of 928-29. Sadly, he contracted tuberculosis and died at 23. The trophy is played in his memory.

There will be plenty of activities on the day to entertain the whole family such as a native animal farm, face painting, autograph booths, Free Sydney Cricket Club coaching clinic, Santa and more. Admission is by gold coin donation although as Council intends to raise as much as possible bring your notes too. There will be plenty of raffle prizes too.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available so contact Council on 9911 6555 for details.

The event is presented by the City of Canada Bay, Bombs Away Productions and Sydney Cricket. Many thanks go to major Battle of the Smashers 2 sponsor Commonwealth Bank, and supporters JMR Creative, Offset Alpine Printing and GDR Distribution.

Went along today, did ok. Would of got a few more, however my son wasn't feeling to great so i left early. This is the first S.Waugh autographs for my collection. I have had the poster ever since his last test. Was great to finally get it signed. All the footy guys were in good spirits. The mini bats were for sale for $20, which i thought was a bargain. Cheers guys.

Yeah mate it's the hat. Cooper wears it to anything cricket related. Could of got a few more but Cooper is still struggling from the chilli chicken he had at the dogs Xmas party.

I just sent an email to the Steve Waugh Foundation to see how much they would sell those cricket bats for. Unfortunately, they want $50 plus postage for it :(
