Hey Jesse, do you have a favourite team, or perhaps a past-time player? Or even a new-age player?
If so, do some shopping around online (ebay and COMC.com are both great for this) and see what takes your fancy.
Head over to the box-break sections here on these forums, and see what cards are being pulled, and see if there's anything there that you might like to collect.
Rather than just buying anything and everything NBA, chase something that you can appreciate and collect.
The tendency when most people start out is they cast the net far and wide over a heap of insert set chases, then realise it can get expensive chasing multiple sets.
So I guess the small piece of advice I can give is to set a budget and work within it, to avoid being disappointed with being unable to complete lots of different sets.
Update! I have recently picked up a Jarrett Jack 13/50 Artifacts Red Relics card and A Fleer Ultra. 96/97 Michael Jordan Starring Role! Oh, and I am also thinking that my player collection should be based around Nerlens Noel. Any opinions on either the cards or Nerlens as a PC would be appreciated.
Hard to make comment, really but if you like the cards then all good.
I mean, neither really make any sense if you're looking at starting a Nerlens Noel collection.
Noel could well be a standout player, too hard to tell as he sat out his entire Rookie season due to injury.
