I was able to make it out to the Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel in Williamsburg back on Saturday to attend the Sports Celebrity Weekend autograph sessions!!! Since this event was only 5-10 minutes away from my house, it was really easy to get to. This is the first time Northern Michigan has had a big event like this ever involving a bunch of pro athletes and signing autographs. Wow is all I can say since that before the Beach Bums existed, Northern Michigan use to be the death valley of IP autographs. I guess with the Beach Bums now in existence and this event that went on, that label has now changed in my opinion. Way to go Northern Michigan I guess lol....
The Sports Celebrity Weekend here had 3 different autograph sessions. I was able to attend all 3 autograph sessions. Despite the policy of one per person, these players were more then willing to sign multiples for all the fans/collectors that came for this event!!! It was also surprising to me that there was not a huge crowd for this big event as I anticipated with the names that were on this list. Now I can keep going on lol but I want to get to the results. Here are my INK-tastic results I had spending all day Saturday at this event!!!:
Sports Celebrity Weekend @ Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel Williamsburg 6/28/08
Tigers
John Hiller 8 cards (4 for plbstew)
Rick Leach 13 cards (2 for Astrofan5, 2 for ackerson22)
Denny McLain 3 cards
Jim Northrup 4 cards (2 for plbstew)
Larry Pashnick 2 cards (1 for plbstew)
Dave Rozema 2 cards
Mickey Stanley 9 cards (4 for plbstew, 1 for threebearfan)
Lions
Lomas Brown 15 cards, and a pic with... (4 for ackerson22) (Just like his personality on tv from ESPN First Take, he is always very pleasant to deal with. I was able to chat with him for a few minutes about his career and also working for ESPN. He will be back on working for ESPN when football season starts rolling again if anyone is wondering...)
Eric Hipple 4 cards (2 for threebearfan)
Ed (Eddie) Murray 10 cards, 1 8x10 photo (4 for ackerson22) (Ed: "Sure I got time for more then one give me all that you got!!!") (Quite possibly the coolest guy on Earth when it comes to signing autographs. He would of easily done 50, 100 cards no problem at all as I saw a couple people get at least 20-30 cards done of him and he really enjoys doing it for them. He is alot of fun to be around overall....)
Robert Porcher 3/9 cards, and a pic with (Only did 3 max for everyone.) (ackerson22, I will pm you on the 50/50 for this guy when I get around to it...)
Marc Spindler 2/3 cards (He wouldn't sign the Jets card as he indicated that it had something to do with his son but would not specify why. It's a fact that he won't sign the Jets card and he stated that he never has signed that card...)
Broncos
Mike Lodish 1 card, 1 8x10 photo (Wish I had more for this guy to do....)
Pistons
Vinnie Johnson 7/9 cards, and a pic with... (Finally got this guy again as when I got him last season, he was in a hurry at the Pistons 50th anniversary game. Even though he did not commit to an autograph session, he could of easily be gotten if you walked around the casino. We actually got this guy just after we got out of the first autograph session at this event and he was just walking by and we all stopped him and he signed away going into the casino and also signed away again coming back from the Casino. He was the one guy I wanted at this event and I was happy to get him as he signed enough for me to knock out some Pistons sets I have going here that I needed him on!!!)
Others
Dennis Hextall 1 8x10 photo, 1 SCW Handout
Mike Krushelnyski 1 card
Mike Lantry 1 8x10 photo, 1 SCW Handout
Lee Norwood 1 SCW Handout Personalized
John Ogrodnick 4 cards (He has stated that he will never respond to mail requests. So if any of you guys do hockey autographs TTM, don't send to him as he will not respond to fan mail at all.)
Dave Rayner 1 8x10 photo PERSONALIZED, 1 SCW Handout
Rob Rubrick 1 SCW Handout
Rich Strenger 1 8x10 photo, 1 SCW Handout
Craig Wolanin 1 8x10 photo with "96 Stanley Cup Champs" Inscription, 1 SCW Handout
Paul Woods 1 SCW Handout
Total autographs I got from this event: 104 autographs a new one day record total for me!!!
That is all I got result wise from this event.
This has to be one of the best events I ever been to for graphing this year. I guess Northern Michigan has changed from its days of death valley for IP autos. This was one of the greatest weekends I ever had for autographs!!! I would like to thank all the members that sent me 50/50s for this event as I was more then happy to be able to help and I did alot better then I thought I would at this event. This was a nice change to have from all the Frontier League games I been graphing so far this year.
I guess I got it all covered for now from this day. As always, I will look forward to reading your comments on what I would describe was an epic day of autographs I had back on Saturday....
Thanks alot for looking!!!
Next up for me: Beach Bums vs. Midwest Sliders 7/6 (Beach Bums AUTOGRAPH SUNDAY!!!), A-baseball FINALLY!!!: West Michigan White Caps vs. Peoria Chiefs 7/12......
