I am fairly new back to collecting (and mainly getting 90s stuff anyway), but after seeing some of the new(er) National Treasures product i got to wonder about how they source all these jersey and patches for player cards.
Firstly, i assume that all products are actually using player worn jerseys. If that is so, i wonder when they'll run out of some retired players?
Does someone maintain a cache of all these retired players jerseys? I wonder how they can source them.
Then i wonder how many jerseys are actually required to make a set of cards. Most NBA players are pretty big, so i imagine patch cards which are usually numbered to about 25 is roughly how many patches they can get out of one jersey. And then a number of jersey pieces can be used on the higher numbered cards.
Of course Oliver Miller would be less valuable as it could be numbered to 1000!
I am not sure if this topic has been discussed much, but the large and jumbo patches on some of the newer cards made me wonder about the sustainability (in particular for retired players)
