An upgrade on a Heinsohn 61 fleer IA with better centering and sharp corners too.



An upgrade on edges with a topps trio sticker but its OC. Oh well one day a perfect one.

Freebies from members. A Davis xfractor /79 off Graham and a Gomes RC and Brown auto from Locky!



Lastly a card I've searched for ages and FINALLY found one and paid for it. With a money order too and its failed to arrive and seller isn't responding to emails now and looks like I've been ripped! :smt068 Can't begin to tell you how disapointed I am in not getting this.

Given that the Holman is 73 Years old, I'd say it's in pretty decent nic.
Obviously there are better conditioned ones, but still. To have one is another story....

I love the "goes up for a shot" Monopoly card, they even put it on the Slab. Awesome!

The Russell is sweet, it's cool how it's not a "tight" or "smooth" swatch. Looks like it's really been worn!

Upsetting about the Hondo MIA. Really sucks about that. Hope it does arrive tho mate!

Nah even though its old I'm still not happy with a creased up psa 1 eqv. I just have to be patient and fork out for a nice one.

The Russell GU can be pressed down but for some reason it keeps lifting a little?

My next mailday should be cool but is a fair way away.

This question may appear a little nieve...but what is the significance of the card?? Obviously to be listed in the top 20 if must have a story??

Is it because of its age? or is there another reason?

Well its the first set to feature basketball players from actual professional teams and mainstream and distributed in a wax wrapper etc. There are three Celts in it and Holman was the star of the time. No other ball players in it other than that but the set that also features the likes of Babe Ruth etc. Sets have sold for over $250,000US+ in the past year or so.

So basically its the first card to be made.

Chad, before watching teh FA Cup last night I was flicking through Beckett Issue No 50, which is from Sep 1994.
That issue listed the 5- key cards of the hobby at the time.
Now there were some inclusions that may not make it now, such as Dikembe Mutumbo's 91-02 Upper Deck RC, but there was the Goudey Sport Kings Nat Holman at No. 20.

There is another ball card non celts in the set too. I stuffed up :-( Its hard when you don't assoc names with the sport etc.

The reason its number 7 on Jeff's list and 20 on the other one is simple. Like Jeff said if you make up a list of the top vintage cards of all time the fist ten plus places are taken up with bread for energy cards and all the Mikan releases etc. So after naming one card of a player he held off on listing more etc.

Here is his take on it.

You basically assume what would happen if you put 10 vintage basketball collector's in a room with every vintage basketball card and said "pick 100". However, in doing so, you wouldn't even reach a 1957 card until all of the Bread for Energy, Scott's Potato Chips, and Bell Brand cards were listed.

1. These are generally ranked based on what would probably happen if you put the top 5 collectors in a room with every pre-1970 basketball card in the world;

2. The cards are all in the same EX condition, assume all the cards are a PSA 6;

3. Commons are removed entirely from the list. In some cases semi-stars may be removed/moved. It would be a shame to have a Buddy Grant Scott's card (although I think it may be Buddy Grant's only vintage card) ahead of a 1957 Petit;

4. I will do some adjustment to to order to reflect certain cards. I will move up the 61 Fleer Chamberlain, although, if you really did the list by value and all cards were in the same condition, (e.g., PSA 6), it wouldn't be anywhere near the top of the list;

5. Every time a player is placed in the top 50, I will make it harder for that same player to appear again (this way the top 50 doesn't consist of 20 George Mikan's);

6. I will only take 1 cards from Scott's Potato Chips, Royal Dessert, Bell Brand, and Bread for Health;

7. I will only mention a player 3 times; and

8. I will only take a maximum of 5 cards from any set.
