Ok so you’ve won lotto (Tatts/Goldlotto/Powerball/Ozlotto etc) and have managed to buy the rights from the NBA to create your own official trading cards*.
* This would be the old license UD used to have but lost after they failed to make good on there license payment fees to the NBA. (The payments from UD would arrive anywhere from 6 weeks to 2 years after an invoice was sent to them from the NBA, depending on if the cheques were produced, signed or replaced by another form of payment).
So you’ve got the license, what’s the first set you would release? What types of cards would you make?
My first official set would be the following
- 300 Base cards + 2 Check list cards, a similar design to the late 90’s flair releases. Thick card stock/foil stamping, great photography and a great looking design.
- Each team would have 10 cards each. These would include most of the players with top rookies also included.
- Each base card would have a parallel card numbered to #/99 and a masterpiece 1/1
- Printing plates would be part of a NPN program where if you send in your wrappers, you go into a draw to receive a printing plate in return.
- No redemption cards
- I would introduce a set similar to Autographics falling 1:108 packs. Autographs would be of the games best players and rookies. All autos would be on card and there would be a parallel set of autographed cards foil stamped and numbered to the player’s jersey number.
- Jersey cards would feature large swatches of jersey pieces and these would fall at a rate of 1:108 packs. These cards would have a certification on the back stating which game they were used in. (I.e. this Jersey piece was used in a game between the Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks on the 14/03/2007)
- Premium Patch Cards similar to the jersey cards above 1:108 packs.
- Randomly inserted would be a 1/1 Logoman/Auto cards of the players featured in the jersey and patch cards set.
In total each box would contain an Autographics card, a Jersey card or a Premium Patch card.
36 Packs per box, 9 cards per pack at $4.99 per pack
