My apologies first, as I do not mean to offend some ozcarders, but..............
Would like to ask the opinion of others about this point.
I occassionally receive cards which have a strong stench of cigarettes. I do not smoke and the smell of smoke puts me off a little. Its just that when you smoke, the smell gets stuck on to things.
For example, have you been in a car of a smoker? As soon as you get into the car, you can smell the smoke even without anyone lighting up. It is on the fabric and the plastic of the car.
Same thing with cards............the smell gets stuck on the card.
I sometimes have to quarantine the cards so it goes away and not spread to the other cards.
I know some sellers of products on EBay (not cards, usually clothing) do advertise stored in smoke free environment, just for that reason. Maybe sellers should do the same for cards.
Holy moly! I have always just rolled my eyes when I see the "Smoke free home' speal on cards. As, how much smoke would there have to be to get on a basketball card???
[Now sniffing my UD Blacks.....]
But man, if you can smell it on the card you have, that can't be good.
I've seen quite a few card seller on ebay.com stating in their description that the card was stored in a smoke-free house/environment or somethng like that.
Funny you have started this thread...
I was disturbed the other day when I saw 2 young women in the car smoking cigarettes while there's a little girl in the back seat. I felt sorry for the girl coz she's more likely to smoke in the future than not... I am not a smoker coz I know what effect it does to our body...
As per Ersk said, I also dont want to offend anyone here at ozcards regarding this matter...
I've received cards and even boxes from time to time that smell of smoke...sometimes it's the seller (deep ingrained stench)....sometimes it's my OZPost parcel contractor who smokes in the van!!!
I recently aquired a tote box full of P.Ewing cards and the stench of cigar smoke was evident. The old sniffer dogs would have had a field day with this box. Advertising that the cards come from a smoke free home is a good idea but on the other hand if they advertise that the cards smell like a Cafe in Amsterdam, their chance of selling to a collector is slim.
For example, have you been in a car of a smoker? As soon as you get into the car, you can smell the smoke even without anyone lighting up. It is on the fabric and the plastic of the car.
And then you get out and it's stuck on you too and it reeks..!
I've received smelly smoke cards a couple of times, thankfully it's usually base cards and I'm able to track dowm replacements. The smell never really goes away.
i had a shawn kemp auto jersey a few years ago,and it had the speal of comes from a smoke free home.bla bla bla,and it clearly reeked of smoke, and had coke stains on it,i was so pissed off,and never got a refund
i've never noticed a card smeel like that but then again i am a smoker and i can't smell a smoke when it's right infront of my face, tastes like fresh air 2 me

for me, i hardly smell any cards before.. coz i don't want to smell anything that's not really necessary... fresh box breaks smell too.. coz i am a little sensitive about smells and i never try to smell anything if possible..
i think fabrics smell too... i have yet to smell the cards though...
hopefully, the postmen don't smoke in their vans...
