Site Renovation Proposal

I come to all members with an idea that can and will happen if i get all your support!!! My older brother Mousey12 has had contact with MSF creator DC for quite some time. Recently i got my older brother to see if he could offer his professinal services to Oz Cards. Dc proposed that he would create a fresh site banner, a Logo for OzCards and also give Oz Cards a pernament link on the MSF Frontpage. This would be a great stepping stone and boost for Oz cards as it would fund the site with much deserved recognition and respect.

Ozcards was co-founded by magicman, myself and tezza_jw in August 2004 and has grown immensily over the course of two years. So far we have seen the new real estate that Hill33 most kindly donated to all Australian Card Traders, a feedback system that was funded by a large group of members and a rise in member numbers. Myself and magicman came up with the concept of an australian card trading site with the intentions to see it grow into something as extravegent and well known as the beckett boards and other american trading sites.

All of us recall the 93/94 era and remember how fulfilling it was to buy and trade basketball cards., it seemed as if everyone was addicted to the hobby! Those glory days are long gone too many, alot of old collectors no longer collect and have their cards isolated in some shitty storage unit :) . Me and Magicman's goals back in 2004 was too bring people back into the dead hobby and it couldnt seem like a better time with all the new irrigation in trading cards. The hobby has grown heaps and alot of basketball fans in Australia are oblivious to it's exsistence.

DC is a very busy man and is responsible for not only creating one of the most talked about basketball sites in australia MSF entirely by himself but he also has assited in building one of the best street courts in Australia through fundrasing 'Pharen Park'. He has also started basketball events within the community and has interviewed legends of basketball such as Magic Johnson.
He is a man on a mission, ' a single man doing everything and anything to bring back basketball's lost popularity down under. He also is the most qualified person to freshen up Oz Cards. He has almost completed his degree in multimedia and is planning to start a web design and graphic franchise.
DC has recived hundreds of emails of people complementing his skill, effort and dedication to MSF. There is also speculation that NBA.com has copyed some of his web design formats and features.

Heres the scenereo; for oz cards to get a professinal face lift and recieve much needed exposure a fee of $250.00 has to be funded to DC for his time and effort. He has promised to show some draft work befour he goes hard on the banner and logo if he knows he has our support and people are interested. Contributing $10 or $20 will go along way in making the site we visit everyday BIGGER.

You can check out his work at his website;

www.msfbasketball.com

I need feedback from you guys and what you would be willing to contribute. So if you want this together we have to fund $250.

guys your support and donation's would not only benifit yourself's everyday viewing pleasure but also everyone else including the demongraphic we are trying to attract.

thanks.

While i think it sounds great...ozcards has just had an update and i beleive it looks and works just fine. We have just spent $160US on the new look/feel and if we were to do this it would be money wasted. I reckon leave sleeping dogs lie.

I also believe that getting to big can sometimes be a curse. While we are a relitivley small community we have good control over our members at at this stage have very few "wankers". Judging by the negitive feedback the beckett boards have been getting, being small isnt always a bad thing!!

Just my opinion.

this would give the site identity.
and going bigger is a good thing, you get to meet and trade with more nice people. Dickheads easily can be erased, thats what the moderators are for.

Look what happened when the site got listed on kickz.com. There was an abundance of dicks that comae from that...and it was only a small link.

Again...it is just my opinion. What does everyone else think??

and a logo.. it will give oz cards a new look and a identity... it will help attract many more collectors and will make the place look even better than it already is.

If it aint broke it doesn't need fixing. ;-)

Being bigger isn't all its cracked up to be. We are already growing and growing each week with more dedicated collectors comming in. I would think that is the direction you would want to see. Why would a new website bring in new members? Isn't a new logo easy enough if thats what you want?

I just don't see the point? Most of the members are from recomendations from others and this has made it a classy place so far with a few exceptions and that was mostly from kickz101 like mentioned. You mention the demographic you want Jon? What is that exactly?

So more money for a banner and logo we can do and a link that takes two seconds to add? The look of the banner is less important than quality members and posts.

My two cents

I agree with chad, and For that amount of money why don't we chip in and get thumbboy or Pooc (On another forum some of us might know) see if they can whip us up a banner/logo

we'd be better spending nothing, and someone creating a banner that we'll all put in our ebay listings (or whatever the rules could be)

i'm sure there would be a number of members on the board skilled enough to make up a few banners/logos so that we could chose one that the majority likes

for the record,
this place is fine as it is, and once you try to make something be profitable, you only stand to have it ruined down the track by idiot users...

$250 is a bit much for a link/banner/logo..
and i find it hard to believe you wouldn't get a piece of that pie...
(Why would you bother otherwise)..

i say that we are going fine as it is, if this place turned into beckett/kickz, i know that i wouldn't be around....(because of 80% idiot people)

I think our last upgrade was necessary, the format of the boards was stale and this upgrade has given us a feedback system and a number of other useful enhancements. it sounds like you want to give ozcards an unnecessary, purely cosmetic upgrade, and charge a fair bit to do it, when im sure we could have it done for little or no money.

im happy with the way it is for the time being. if other people want to pony up the dosh, by all means but i dont think i would support this kind of facelift.

Yeah Thumbboy or Pooc could do it easily and for free too I say. Why not use the resources we have already? No need to outsource. Thumbboy is one of the sites legendary members.

I have to agree with most. A group of us put up some cash for this recent facelift which has gone along way in improving this place. Well worth the expense. It was sure nice of you to try and organise something and offer it to us as a community here in the forums Metallica.
I think it's good to one day see this forum be as big and popular as Beckett for example, but at this stage in my opinion it seems to be going great. Lots of new members of recent which I am struggling to keep up with.
You have provided us with something to think about, as well as Trey. We should make up a logo and possibly see about displaying it in our ebay listings and on our own sites etc.

yeah well it was an idea, and i thought it was a good time to ask.
i understand what most of you are saying,
$250 is alot but not when its spilt by 25 people, but if you want to make your own banner and logo then ill defiantly support it.
it was merely a suggestion and to see if any one would jump on board.

a member with alot of skill in the graphic department is masterlee, alot more so than thumbboy. if he is willing that is.

i brought this up as people have asked for a change i the banner and i thought a professinal finish would be an alright path to take. anyways if someone is offering their time to whip up a banner and logo than let us know.

Metallica i personally think it is a great idea, but i also see the other side of the coin and at the moment i think we should stick what we have got. Maybe try again in 6 months time.

But i also think the above idea might be something to look at if it can be done.

If it's a banner you want, I can recommend someone who composed one at www.harris34.com ;)

But serious, what's wrong with what we've got? 9 times out of 10 I dont even look at the top, lol. Sure I know what's there, as I pay attention, but I dont look there all the time. And a logo? That's easy enuff done, but spending $250 for all that, that someone could do in 5-10 mins for free...

What's that mfs site? I've not been there (dont have time to check it out right now)....

This place is growing rapidly, I think there's enough promotional advertising going around with our Ebay contacts...and as Chadly mentioned, if it's not broken why fix it?

Was great to share your ideas tho Jon, but looks like we've all pretty much shot it down in flames. No hard feelings bro.

If you want to spend $250 on a banner / logo & link, give the money to me LOL!

For the record, I think that guys site looks shit
