In my few years of collecting I have stared set chases and have always seemed to give up and sell off the cards. I've recently started a new chase and would love to see what sets you guys have completed and how long it took. Would be great inspiration.

I've yet to complete because of Linsanity driving Jeremy Lin's price off the roof. I still feel absolutely gutted for passing on the last piece that sold for $23.

I love me a good set chase! As a player collector, you can pick up a nice insert that you don't have, but it doesn't carry the same excitement as picking up a card for a set. Even if it is a low end set, it feels good to complete them!

In saying that, there is nothing like the gigantic kick in the balls that you get when you manage to collect 34/35 RC Autographs from a set and find out that the redemption you are waiting for will not be getting made!! Technically you can say that the set is complete, but it still sucks balls!!

I have these set chases going:

09/10 Rookies & Stars - Base/Inserts/RC Team Patch Autos as well as the base/insert parallel set /500
09/10 Classics - Base/Legends/Inserts/RC Autos
09/10 Upper Deck - Base/Inserts
09/10 Contenders RC Autos
09/10 Season Update - Base (inc 4 super SP's)/Inserts/Christmas Cards GU/Rookie Challenge GU/Lakers Legacy GU
10/11 Gold Standard - Base/Inserts/RC autos, all /299

So far, I have completed:

09/10 Upper Deck - 200 card base set, 40 Rookies, 55 Immortals, 20 Now Appearing Inserts, 34/35 Masterpieces Inserts (they never made one of them ) and 50 of the 3D Stars. Pics are in here if you want to see:

Most of the others are either mostly or very nearly finished too.

When I chase a set like these though, I make sure I don't rush. If you put a time limit on it, you will pay too much for some cards and make it a $$ drainer. If you take your time and just pick up the ones that are cheap, it is easier to manage a bunch of chases as well as PC Players!

What set are you doing/contemplating?

Yeah mate my biggest problem with sets is rushing and not having patients. At the moment I'm chasing the 10-11 Classics Membership Patches, so far I have 9/49.

I'm slowly plugging my way through the 97/98 Upper Deck Game Dated Memorable Moments foils set. Got about 15 of 30 so far...

im trying to complete an upper deck base/rc set from every year that they had there NBA licence, ive done a few, alot of them are very close to complete, done a few insert sets too, afew ive completed are -

I'm chasing the 09/10 Studio Skylines and Masterstrokes GU sets, love the design of both! About half way done with Skylines, haven't got one Masterstrokes!! And I'm planning to start chasing the Past and Present raining 3's and fireworks insert sets, both look great!

I'm going through the same thing at the moment with my current set chase and I constantly have to stop myself from selling them.

It'll never be completed but as they say in my trade "close enough is good enough"

I am slowly trying to put together the Gold Standard Platinum base set, 212 cards numbered to #/25, have around 130 odd at the moment. But have the big names like kobe, Lebron, D.Wade, Griffen, Durant & C.Anthony out of the way already.

Sometimes it's harder to get the more common players than the starts!
