purchased a card from a seller in the states. He agreed to send registered post and I paid him for it when I paid for the auction.
A few days after I hit the BIN and had paid I asked for the tracking number of the package. No response. A few days after that I ask for the number again and get this response:
"We have a problem. I can only ship that card using brown packing tape the way you want it sent. I have been looking for the brown packing tape and can only find it for $17 per roll. I have no use for that tape. I had your card all packaged with $14 of postage on it and they tell me it can't be sent. I'm not going to pay 17 for a roll of tape that I don't need. I can send you the card through regular mail and send it in the packahge to show you where I wasted the 14 postage. What do u want me to do?"
Never heard that one before. Anyone got any thoughts on this?
Umm that sounds very wierd... why is it in a package and not a bubble envelope? I would have it forwarded to SBF or to someone that has an addy with a USA forwarding service. It just sounds dodgy as all F7(K

I think I know what he is talking about. I'm not sure if you guys have seen it, it is the a special brown tape with threads on it. It makes it very obvious when a parcel is re-package or opened. This is to prevent mail fraud or to show that the parcel has not been tempered with. I am not sure if it is a ebay rule yet but some of my recent mails from the US does have this brown tape. I think it is a USPS rule.

if you send it to SBF, im getting a big lot sent over very soon, so you can get it sent with that lot if you wanted.
not sure how keen on that you would be.. pm me if your interested in this mate..
Apparently ALL registered items need to have this special brown tamper proof tape around every edge and seal point on the package before it can be sent. Some post offices enforce it - others dont apparently.
Anyway - the guy has finally sent the card as of today
Good to hear the card has been sent! Whenever I have shipped somewhere registered, I have had to use the brown tape stuff. They PO employees just hand me the tape and I seal it up. Never have had any problems with it, and have NEVER been told I have to buy my own roll of tape.
