Collector of an underserved sport
Morning all,
My name is Nick, I live in a disgraceful town north of Brisbane and have just re-commenced collecting. I first started collecting in 1990 or so, when I was in year 2 at school. It was all NSWRL back then, I remember the good ol' Regina packs with the stick of chewing gum in them. In hindsight, I probably wasn't a collector as such at that time, I just wanted chewing gum. I guess the cards were a value-add for me.
Anyway, I took up playing basketball in year 6 or so, and obviously with that came the affliction with the NBA and all of it's paraphernalia, and that's where my pocket money went, week-in, week-out. I loved my Upper Deck. Was a big fan of Shaquille O'Neal in the day, especially in 1996 when I saw his monstrous pass-to-himself-off-the-backboard dunk at the Atlanta Olympics.
I took a 10-year hiatus from collecting not long after that, not so much by choice as simply growing out of it, or growing into different interests. After watching some Youtube footage recently of Michael Jordan in his prime, it all come flooding back to me. And now I've got eBay to find what I want.
I'm primarily interested in MJ cards at this stage, plus looking for other little bargains along the way that could aid profiteering in the short-to-medium term.
