SA Redbacks - where to from here?

Hi all,

Even though (mainly due to the fawning, biased reporting from the South Australian media, and the "style over substance" selection policy that seemingly exists at the SACA!) I am not a Redbacks supporter by any means - it is still a concern that a once successful cricket state is now little more than a laughing stock, and in effect has made domestic cricket a "5-team" competition.

Since the Redbacks won the Sheffield Shield in 1995-96, there have been 33 domestic finals played (14 Sheffield Shield, 14 ING/Ford Ranger Cup and 5
T/20).....in that time they have made...erm.....2 FINALS....for 2 losses.

This recent season promised a great improvement, yet saw only a choke in the T/20 final, and last place in the Shield and Ford Ranger Cup.

There must be die-hard Redback fans on this forum...and even cricket fans in general who want to see a healthy, competitive domestic comp. So where to for the SA Redbacks?

where to for the sa redbacks?? umm let me think... LAST PLACE! they need to get that one star player to help them.

wa: marcus north, hussey and johnson
vic: brad hodge, mcdonald, white
nsw: Clarke, lee, haddin + loads more
tas: ricky ponting, hilfenhous
qld: andrew symonds
sa:?????

over half of those guys listed above won't even play state cricket next year....

Klinger is a run machine.... He might not be a superstar, but he'll play more State cricket and average more then anyone listed above. Tait is a star T20 and On Day player but should just give Shield cricket away. Manou is solid but hardly a star!

Consistency and Confidence is what is lacking from the Redbacks side and its almost like a cancer that spreads and is hard to shake! We didn't have that bad of a First X1 last season just no one played any good for longer then an Innings at a time!!

Glad to see the Redbacks are actually trying to re shape the squad in one way or another.

The only constant and decent state cricketers in that list are Hodge and White

North, Hussey, Johnson = Test Players that won't see SFA state duties!
McDonald = Over rated as hell and has done nothing for 12 months!
Clarke, Haddin, Katich = Full Time Australian Duties!
Lee = Retired from first class cricket.
Hughes = Fringe Test so will play a fair bit of shield!
Ponting, Hilfenhaus = Full Time australian duties unless injured!
Symonds = Retired from First Class Cricket (Either that or QLD just don't select him)

If your going to make reference to players at least make them relevant....

No use trying to bag/describe a team using players that don't even play constant State cricket!

i doubt Hughes will play ODI cricket, it isn't his style.....

and South Australia are a decent outfit, as others were saying Klinger is under-rated, so are the likes of Ferguson etc...

I just read that Aiden Blizzard has signed for them and they have dumped cosgrove.
Its a good move for them to get Blizzard cause he can really bat well but has had bugger all opportunity at Victoria. I think both years in the big bash he was man of the match in the final and check out the 6 he hits out of the waca on youtube . He can tonk a ball thas for sure

He's a waste of space..
Was given countless oportunities at Victoria and only played two good games.
Glad we removed a list clogger, actually two list cloggers, Rob Cassel is even worse..

I dont know about countless opps mate maybe one day games hes played a few but i think he has only played a couple of shield games

I remember the Blizzard six at the WACA - even the commentators were laughing at how far he hit it. It was amazing.

I think Callum Ferguson on the park will give SA some backbone, yes he was renowned for giving away starts early in his career but before unjury was batting beautifully IMO.....what's the news on his knee? Will he he be back early this year?
