Well he's not currently detained at Christmas Island like a lot of Kiwis are on appeal, perhaps he will go under the radar as he is a Rugby League Professional and has friends in high places.
I was meaning misdemeanors at a club level. From what I understand the Warriors had a written account of these and there was an incident at the end of his time with the club that was the final straw. It wasn't a legal matter although it could conceivably have been.

He's one very very lucky individual, if he had been in contact with a OMG rather than a RLC he's papers would have been marked even before he was released.
