Saw a couple of 84-85 MJ Star graded cards... & asked the seller how much for shipping to Australia.... His reply was

"YOU CAN NEVER BE 100% SURE, BUT I THINK IT WOULD PROBABLY BE ABOUT $10(WITH INSURANCE) PER POUND. THAT'S VIA AIR-PARCEL-POST. 1 GRADED CARD IS ROUGHLY A HALF LB. THANX 4 YOUR INTEREST !!! "

Which in my case is fair enough, $5 a card..... so I then won 2 cards from this dude.... & on the invoice the shipping charge was....

Postage and handling via USPS Airmail Parcel Post: US $24.50
Postage insurance (required): US $3.25

now is this guy going to send me 2 pounds of rocks with the cards or what.... moron !!!

I already email him to review the charges considering he told me it was going to be $5 x 2 at most....

anything else i can do if he doesnt budge ?

Bugger, happens quite often with me unfortunately.

But just talk to him and I'm sure it will work out.

What i find, is that it always seems wo work out for the top bidder, as they seller just wants more $$$$ in the end.

Just tell him how it is Marty. I had the same problem with a Buy-Back auto I won from the guy above.
Ask him for a Global Priority Pre-Paid mailer? USPS Airmail? Registered mail whatever you would prefer in a bubble mailer rather than the Parcel Post.
I'm sure he will be willing to oblige. Remind him of the quote he told you and tell him that's the only reason why you bid, so that's all you're paying for the correct shipping method.

ask for global priority, shouldnt cost him more than 9US to send in the bigger of their mailers...

Whatever happens, stick to your guns Marty.
Do you want a secure shipping method or just Global/Airmail?
Send him another email, with his quote in there and explain to him that you do not want that expensive method of shipping. Tell him that he quoted you roughly $10. Then suggest he sends them Global Priority which includes tracking to cover his ass for a paypal complaint.
I'm sure registered mail only costs $11 or thereabouts, but tell him you don't want insured parcel post.

I can't understand why you guys seriously bother with buying stuff from American eBay. After all the nonsense I've heard and read from you guys, why bother? I'm not bothering, even if I really want a card. Mum buys stuff from overseas and it costs about as much as you guys get 'quoted' for by these American toss-pots that call themselves 'good sellers'.
