Canadian Wrestler Chris Benoit Found Dead With Family In Atlanta
Monday June 25, 2007

One of Canada's most famous wrestlers has met with a tragic end that even worse involves his wife and son.

WWE superstar Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and son Daniel were found dead Monday in their Atlanta home after the 40-year-old Benoit missed a house show Saturday night and a Sunday night pay-per-view. He had traveled home to Atlanta for family reasons. Benoit, born in Montreal Quebec, was also known as "Pegasus Kid" and was widely considered to be one of the stronger technical wrestlers of all time.

WWE immediately announced plans to scrap Monday's scheduled "Raw" event and will address the tragedy on air. Few additional details are available.

Very Sad:(

It's bad enough when a great wrestler dies. Worse when one's wife dies as well, but the death of the child has to be the greatest tragedy in all of this.

R.I.P.

Raw was meant to be a Tribute show, it says on wwe.com.

Bery suss that his wife and son dies too.

I did a google, and I found another "Benoit" (Mark) of a story that he'd killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life. Very spooky, although nothing to do with each other.

Very sad.

I still remember Wrestlemania when Benoit won one title, and Eddie the other, and they both celebrated in the ring with tears.

Wrestler Chris Benoit, family found dead
Tuesday Jun 26 11:47 AEST
AP - Professional wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead in their US home on Monday, and police said they were investigating the deaths as a homicide.

Lt Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found at their home about 2.30pm local time (0430 Tuesday AEST), but refused to release details.

Pope said results of autopsies on Benoit, his wife Nancy, and seven-year-old son Daniel were expected on Tuesday.

Benoit, 40, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles.

He appeared in events put on by World Wrestling Entertainment.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its website.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the Vengeance pay-per-view event on Sunday night in Houston, Texas, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons".

Benoit, a Canadian native, maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

Nancy Sullivan Benoit was a former wrestling valet who wrestled under the name, Woman.

After news of the tragedy broke, the WWE cancelled its live Monday Night RAW program in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

Holy Shit! Just heard this from a mate! That is freaking crazy! Wife and kid too! :( One terrible day in sports entertainment history! :(

It's now been stated on WWe.com that it is a murder suicide. Lucky his other 2 children were not home. They were in Canada.

But who was the murderer? It is a sad state of affairs and I doubt those other two kids feel any luckier. They may be alive but have to deal with the worst kind of tragedy.

I got this from another board.

WAGA reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, and then himself sometime Monday.

A concerned neighbor called police. The bodies were found in three different rooms.

The lead investigator, Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope, told The Associated Press that the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and said the cause of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday.

Well if that is the case, I won't be mourning Benoit. I'll wait for official evidence to be released of course before judging, but if that is the case, it's his family I really feel bad for.
