Anna Nicole Smith, 39, has died in hospital after collapsing at a Florida hotel, her attorney has said.
"I can confirm that she is deceased. It's as shocking to me as to you guys," Smith's attorney, Ronald Rale, told Reuters.
"I don't know anything further. (Her lawyer and husband) Howard (Stern) obviously is speechless and grieving."
The model was found in her hotel room and given CPR by Seminole tribal fire rescue and Hollywood fire rescue workers, said Michael Bloom, president of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Smith's nurse reportedly called hotel workers at the hotel at 1.38pm and security went to the hotel room, hotel officials said. Smith was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood at 2.10pm.
"She checked into the hotel 8pm Monday night, she was due to check out on Friday," hotel spokeswoman Danielle Giordaano said.
"She was rushed to hospital today at 2pm to the Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood."
Smith's sudden death comes only five months after her 20-year-old son Daniel Wayne Smith died, days after the birth of Smith's second child, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, while visiting his mother in the Bahamas hospital where she gave birth.
An autopsy showed Daniel had died of a methadone overdose.
Another followed shortly after when Smith was ordered to have Dannielynn undergo a paternity test as part of a lawsuit by ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead.
Birkhead sued Smith in October, demanding she have the paternity test because he believed he was the father of the girl.
Smith had said her lawyer, Howard Stern, is the father of the baby.
The former stripper was paid to come to Sydney in March 2005 to add glamour to celebrity magazine NW's Oscars party at Paddington Town Hall.
Smith, who had her own reality TV show, arrived for the function with lawyer Howard Stern and two camera crews to record her appearance at the event for a documentary.
According to guests at the party Smith quickly took a shine to several Sydney men.
"It was pretty hot," said one eyewitness.
"She was trying to get [one of the men's] shirt off at one stage."
It is understood Smith was "wired for sound" at the function so conversation could be recorded for the documentary.
The documentary was expected to be similar to her reality TV show, which trailed the platinum blonde as she stumbles from disaster to disaster on the celebrity circuit.
She said that Australian men had deeply impressed her.
"I could be persuaded to live here. The men don't seem to be as much into themselves as they are back home," she said.
Smith went on to bare her breasts at the MTV awards and party on Hamilton Island with other celebrity guests, the Osbournes.
Smith, who was born Vickie Lynn Hogan and raised in the small Texas town of Mexia, grew up emulating screen legend Marilyn Monroe.
She met elderly oil billionaire J Howard Marshall while dancing at a
Houston strip club and married him in 1994, when she was 26 and he 89.
Marshall died the following year and Smith spent much of the following decade battling members of his family over his estate.
In May of 2006 the US Supreme Court ruled that Smith could pursue her case in federal court.
Smith, who modelled Guess Jeans, was named Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Year in 1994 and had film roles that year in ``The Hudsucker Proxy and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.
