Ricky Ponting steps down as captain

about time... i think its for the best although he got 104 last game he was super greedy in doing so... played as if it was a test.

Without his century, we'd have been lucky to scramble to 200.

Anyway, enough of that.

Thanks for your passionate, unflinching service Ricky. May not have agreed with every tactic you employed, but at the end of the day what the hell do I know about captaining Australia?

While Ponting is probably overdue to step down by 6 - 12 months.... Is Clarke really ready to take over?? Is anyone else for that Matter??? If we have been going through a rough patch the last 12 months or more, then look out the next 12 months or more because we are going to be farked!

However, I thought it was time to gut the Test team like a fish.

Out with M Hussey, Bollinger, Ponting and Haddin. In with Ferguson, Paine and Khawaja, with an eye on M Marsh, Starc, Pattinson, Cummins, O'Keefe and anyone else...

Fresh faces, fresh blood and a young captain.

I have always believed that you need to pick the best team. It is the way Australian cricket has generally rolled throughout the years. If we are going to start cheapening the baggy green cap by simply bringing in untried, inconsistent kids, then the whole thing will be shot to the s**t-house before long anyway.

I defently agree with fresh blood!!! great kids cumming through the ranks and fast!!! either do your job in the squad or get out, no time for second chances...

yeah its been funny how there is a quick rotation policy for bowlers if they underachieve, but batsmen seem to enjoy a more extended stay despite similar performances

Couldn't cheapen it any worse with the inclusion of one C White.

We've also always picked our BEST XI then picked a captain from that 11. Not picked someone cause 'they are a tactician'.

I have to agree, some of the young bats need to score 1000-1200 a season in Shield. This year the best was Cosgrove with 700-odd. Now if he is the BEST bat of the summer, being a roly-poly pork pie who retires in 20-20's after he's had a bat, then that will do me.
