Today i mistakenly thought i saw a Jordan linchpins card, for quite cheap, i was suprised that is was actually the natural born thrillers!
The backgrounds are quite different in themselves, but from smallish thumbnail images, the blue/purple and that Jordan pose made it look like one another!
I guess more uprising is that the Natural Born Thrillers is a 1995/96 release under flair and the linchpins is a metal universe 1998/99 card (although i think skybox bought fleer or vice versa before the bankruptcy)
Who knows when the stock image might've been from? Or why where the so lazy to use an image from over 3 years ago?
Although there do seem to be some uncanny dissimilarities like the shoelace and his tongue seems to be protruding a bit in the natural born card (perhaps it was photoshopped out as that was a bad influence for the kids)
Anyone else recall reuse of stock photos?
Just thought this stood out as mildly interesting when i noticed it.
I just noticed that the stock Fleer retro is probably the worst offender here. I feel sorry for Karl Malone fans. Although these were the days of films (no digital cameras) so they have to be pretty stringent with the number of shots they could take
(i think alot of other "classic" players may have had it worse though)
Linchpins and Natural Born Thrillers are using the same pic for sure..
There are a lot of 90's inserts of MJ using the same pics as base cards from other years and sets...
And Retro are the worst for re-using the same pic over and over, but I guess they have a limited choice with old hi-res stock to chose from..

There probably are, i just have noticed many before. Especially on higher end inserts. I was surprised they reused some old photo for a higher end insert

You want bad with stock photo's? Take a look at 1999-00 Upper Deck, Upper deck Gold Reserve and Upper Deck Encore. All the base cards are identical. ditto for Fleer and Fleer Force - identical. 2006-07 UD Reserve and Upper Deck? Yup - Identical.
The retro is pretty horrible for this, some players they only seem to have 1 or 2 photos, so you see variations of the same pick on 10 different inserts in 1 set. Panini do have a habit of doing this as well with a lot of the recent kemp picks being the re-used. You'd think after a 13 year career you've have more than a dozen picks to choose from.
I know that this had been discussed before (with different cards) but you have identified 2 things I have a real issue with:
Firstly, I believe the price of cards means that we SHOULD expect different pics (I don't care if it save them money - we are paying a lot for a piece of cardboard - even in the 90s).
Secondly, the photoshopping of the tongue is so stupid. Biting the tongue is so cool - goes numb so hardly any pain, heaps of blood so you look really tough, and heals in a day anyway. Toughen up world!
