UNION, N.J. — When the phone rang last Saturday morning as Panini America officials were going through the final frantic stages of preparing for Hakeem Nicks to deliver the 2012 NFL Player of the Day grand prize to winner Frank Rosato and Steve Mandy at Attack of the Baseball Cards, the news on the other end of the line wasn’t the best.
Nicks, as it turns out, had to cancel due to an emergency. With absolutely no time to waste, Panini America and the NFLPA kicked things into John Elway mode to pull off a two-minute drill for the ages. Through a series of phone calls and tons of behind-the-scenes wizardry, Panini America secured the services of another Super Bowl-winning New York Giant to save the day.
The hero? Defensive back Prince Amukamara, who had the time, the willingness and the uncanny grace to deliver one truly remarkable experience. He was the NFL Player of the Day that turned in enough memories to last a lifetime. You’ll see exactly what we mean in the following video and images.
