So who else here plays poker, Texas Hold 'Em style, lol. I know JV plays some tourny's.

I went out to my local club last night to play in the Australian Poker League's new season. My first time in a real poker game! Was awesome fun, I managed to last about 1 1/2 hours, before going all in on a prayer, lol. One off a straight! Got beat by Ace, King (high card only), lol. So I wasn't a happy chappy, lol.
I can't wait until the next game, I think it's Sat night.

yeah its great fun hey, me and my mates usually have a friday night poker night if theres nothing better to do, all just chuck $20 in the pot and winner takes all. one session lasted about 12 hrs, started about 8 and finished up at 8 the next morning! had to make a few red bull runs to the servo though!:D

Poker is fun, fun is poker.......

Love watching the Championships on telly, and playing the game on the computer (Texas Hold 'em)

Used to have Card Nights with guys from work, but since a couple retired, dont do it no more....

I play heaps! I'm still a teen and legally I can't gamble, so I've never played for real money (Christian also!) but a few of my mates own some sets with great real poker chips and for fun we'll come in and play! Don't play much in the term but in the holidays have heaps of nights of poker and heaps of gatherings to play a few rounds. On new years eve we played through the whole night from about 9 o'clock through to 6 the next morning! Was heaps fun!

haha yea poker is sweet.. muggsy and myself have a poker night every fortnight or so with the guys from our bball team its great fun =)

i rkn mate! Texas Hold'em style!! It's funny, my mates call me the river-rider and the toilet-man because whenever I play I usually get flushes and whenever I go all-in or bet a lot, I always win on the river!

Ahhh, you got the lingo down Jimbo! lol! I couldn't beleive no one was playing with their chips last night! Can anyone do anything fancy?, lol

I do the same, we have home court advanatge lol. I have hosted about 8 poker nights and my mates together have hosted a few. I got about $400 in poker equipment, a felt massive table and countless amounts of chips.

great game, and i have a awesome record. playing for money
i am 9 1sts 3 Losses. i used to take count but kinda dont anymore :o
but we useally have two prizes from the pot, 75% of the pot for first and 25% for second but this changes from time to time..

i was playing blackjack at the casino last nite if that count

i play online at a few sites, ultimate bet, party poker, pokerstars, full tilt.
can prob catch me on the sng's or the $1/$2 limit tables.
my brother on the other hand is really good. he puts in about 25 hours a week online, his pokertracker stats show that his hrly rate is about us$35. he four tables and plays mostly limit games around $3/$6 to $5/$10
he recently came back from a snowboarding/ vegas trip to mammoth mt, and he played a lot in reno and was in vegas for a few days.

he honestly said he does not know why anyone would play live in a b&m when u can play online, u get so many more hands in, and it isnt as boring.
i have played a few times at star and crown, star is terrible with their rake/ cc system, but compared to some of the US casinos, it works out to be the same.
seriously, live games suck. but if ur only in it for fun, then play with mates for a $10 buyin, have a few laughs, shoot the shit.

and personally, i think poker is a lot more exciting than watching basketball, then again, i no longer follow the game. perhaps u should watch a wsop or wpt episode and see how u like it

I'm a member on Ultimatebet.com too. I only play the free poker though, lol. I think online can be so much better. Lots more hands and it's a different sort of strategy with the bluffing too, because no one see's each other and their reactions etc.
I think an NBA game on telly is just as good as a WSOP/WPT show! It's unreal, how can you say it's boring Micki? lol.
I'm going down to play another round tonight at the Club, hopefully I can make it to the break this time, lol!

I play... as often as i could.. I played in the Australian Poker League last season at my local club.. played against all these NRL players who had nothing else better to do in the off season... haha...

Home games are always better... where you are with your mates and have a more relaxing time...

my claim to fame is this one time, a mate brought a mate (who apparently is a Swedish pro that plays in tournies in Vegas).... first hand... he had two lovely ladies.. i had a 10,K... hehe... & the K came out...

the apl is such a joke, with the starting blinds and the starting chip stack as well as the blind structure, its basically a crap shoot. its an allin fest with little skill being shown. terrible poker imo.
as far as the free games go, dont even waste ur time there either. people r calling stations, or make terrible calls hitting their miracle runner runner flush to beat u out of a few play money chips.
just put in $50 and play the micro limit games. even then, u still get people calling bets hoping to draw out on u.

I played in the Australian Poker League tournament on thursday night in melbourne at the Lilydale international pub, finished 8th out of 140 people so i finished with some points to my name. Wasn't happy with the way i lost though, the guy that beat me must have thought we where going to win money or something, he was in his best threads with the walkman on (unsocialable prick), anyway played the first hand on the final table, me and the walkman guy where both equal chip leaders, my hand was, ace of clubs & queen of diamonds, his hand was, ace of diamonds and jack of spades. The flop was ace of spade, 3 & 5 of diamonds, we both have a ace each i am leaking with the larger kicker, i bet 6000 chips he raises to 20000 chips, i match his bet of 20000 chips, next card, 8 of diamonds, i check then he checks, i am still winning with larger kicker, the river card 10 of diamonds, i have a queen high diamond flush, and go all in thinking i have a good chance of winning, he turns over his cards and i am beatin on the river by the ace of diamonds. I played that hand the best i could and would not have changed the way i played. But what shitted me most was the way he acted when he won, even before i turned my cards over he said "i have you beaten" (now that is arrogant). My mates and i only go there for fun and everytime somebody left a table i was playing i would shake there hand and say i might see ya next week. When i got beaten and was out i went to shake walkman guys hand and he wanted nothing to do with it (maybe i smelled i don't know). Well when i go back next week to play my main aim is to start on his table and get that arrogant prick out ASAP (Don't care about winning the tournament just about getting walkout guy out). Bloody hell that is my longest post and probably for most people the most boring to read, just had to get it out of my system

um, so ur complaint was his attitude??? if so, then i can understand, but im more interested in how u played the hand. what was ur preflop action like?
i assume u raised the std 3-4x the bb, and he called.
on the flop, u both hit top pair (tp), so u bet out accordingly, prob about 3/4 of the pot, he raises u, this might raise the question that he is on a diamond draw? u call.
on the turn, another diamond hits, u cant be happy with this card. so u both check it down. here is where u possibly made ur mistake, why give him a free guard to fill his flush?? bet again to see where u stand in the hand. the chances r that ur opponent will prob call anyway, seeing as he has the nut flush draw and tp good kicker. either way, its tough to get away from this hand. i would have bet on the turn to represent the made flush. but as i said, he probably wasnt going to go away.
on the river, another diamond hits. u have to figure him for a made flush now, and seeing as u have the Qd, only 2 cards beat u. going all in here, i dont know how many chips u had left, but tournament play is about survival, u were down to the final table, so accumulating chips isnt a priority, its outlasting the remaining players. if u had a lot of chips left, then u need to figure whether ur flush is better than his, so if u just bet say 1/2 the pot, then i can guess he was going to reraise u allin with his nut flush, u can then throw it away. its a tough laydown, especially seeing as u committed so many chips. but hey, its poker, u ran into a cooler hand, it happens.

and btw, no one wants to hear bad beat stories, move along

Not a bad effort Andrew, wish I could last that long, lol. The people I met on Wednesday night were all so helpful and friendly. You do get some ....you know what's.... who turn up, but where I played was pretty good.

I agree with you on the Aus. Poker League Y2K. Dick-all chips to start, if you get in on a few hands, that's a good chunk of your chips gone, but I was lucky to get a conservative table so I could last longer for a decent hand to come my way. They changed some rules for this season to lengthen the time between the blind increases aswell, which helps a little. It's still a bit of fun for me as I can't really play anywhere else. I have to teach my brother and some mates to play so we can have our own poker nights.
