'Pirates' Becomes Year's Top Film -- In 10 Days
Pirates of the Caribbean remained hotter than a July weekend in Barbados as it took in an estimated $62.2 million between Friday and Sunday to bring its 10-day total to $258.2 million and becoming the biggest money maker at the box office this year. It seemed certain to cross the $300-million mark by next weekend. But the biggest surprise may have been the second-place finish of Sony/Revolution's Wayans brothers comedy Little Man, which took in $21.7 million to finish second. It had been expected to earn something in the high 'teens. Little Man edged out Universal's You, Me and Dupree, starring Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson, which debuted in third place with $21.3 million -- a figure that was also better than expected. The real disappointment at the box office continued to be Superman Returns, which managed to pull in only $11.6 million to bring its total to $163.6 million since its June 28 debut. It took in only slightly more than The Devil Wears Prada, which accompanied the Man of Steel into theaters three weeks ago. Prada, which stars Meryl Streep, fell to fifth place with $10.5 million, bringing its total to $83 million. Nevertheless, despite the strong numbers, they were down 5 percent from the same weekend last year when Charlie and the Chocolate Factory -- another Johnny Depp flick -- topped the box office.

Man thats alot of money :)

It's awesome, I've seen it twice. Johnny Depp is my favourite actor of all times! I'm always confused as to whether these movies are aimed at kids/teens/young adults but I love them. It's funny, action packed and has a cool, easy going story. Takes me back to the fun action movies like Indiana Jones (they're making a 4th Indy) where it was non-stop action, jokes etc.
I can't wait for the third..
And yea, how much money has it made?! It's huuuge, breaking all records.

loved this movie, havent laughed so hard at a movie in ages, loved the scene were the 3 guys are fighting in that water wheel and it rolls past kiera's character and she like "HUH wat the ??
and when captn jack is running from the natives who wanted to BBQ him, man i cracked up at how he ran, actually kinda reminds me of my cousin..

the ending wasn't much....but they were setting it up for the third one!! you can't talk down this movie just because of the ending!!

Great movie!! loved the sword fight on the out of control wheel scene!! =D>

Yeah, non-stop entertainment for me!!! =D> Will almost certainly see it again at the cinema, then buy the Trilogy when it comes out in a set... I agree the ending was somewhat unsatisfying if that was indeed the ending, but when you think about it's just setting up the next one, it takes some of the sting. The first one had a definate ending, which may have led to this ending getting up some noses. But all in all, I could seriously fault it...
Another thing, what about all the negative reviews the newspaper "critics" gave it, along with Tokyo drift??? I mean, C'MON!!! What are they looking for, a moral guide to how to live life in every movie? Does everything have to have a greater meaning? Does every movie have to have "multiple levels" of thinking to be good? You'd think so, if you followed the recommendations of these arty-farty critics... Anyway, I digress from the original topic, so 2 swords up for The Pirates! AAAARRRRGH!!! :smt027

I only saw the first one when it was on telly a few weeks ago and thought it was great! I was never sure whether it would be any good. Sounds like the second is pretty good too, I'll have to see it this week, because I got a week off from work.

Yeah i saw it and thought it was really good. Its a bit darker than the first and the end is a bit of a let down, but i cant wait for the next installment. I heard there trying to sign everyone for a 4th movie.

but have you seen the ending or THE ending, at the end of both movies after the credits there is a little bit more. if you wondered why the monkey turned to a skeleton after all the coins had been put back then check out the first movie as it has the monkey swimming to barbossa's dead body then taking a coin, the second one has the natives dancing to the dog before he gets sacrificed (sorry but you don't see it though)
hope this helps
