hey all,

last night i had the privelidge to meet the great Vlade Divac and his wife Ana... I also had the honor of conducting a charity auction for around 8 of Vlade's possessions for the Ana & Vlade Divac Foundation... they are amazing people and wonderful humanitarians, very generous and they genuinely want to help people in need

From the auctions we raised (just from a rough count back in my head) approximately $12,000-$14,000... incredible support from the Serbian community and for a wonderful cause. Some of the items that we sold (all signed by Vlade):
- LA Lakers signed cap $800
- Partizan Belgrade signed jersey $1,900
- Serbia national team signed jersey $2,000
- Signed cartoon caricature 1/1 sketched on the night $400
- Pair of purple & white signed Dada kicks $2,100
- Pair of black & yellow signed Dada kicks $3,600
- Basketball signed by Vlade & Andrew Gaze $1,000

This coupled with tickets sold for the event, donations on the night, raffle money and sponsors tipping in approx $15,000 means that in excess of $40,000 was raised on the night. In sydney the week before they raised $57,000.

I had a blast and I'll forever be thankful for the opportunity to be involved and do my little bit to help... here are photos from the night:

As a result of what I was able to achieve for them last night, I have been invited to a farewell dinner on Monday evening for approximately 50 guests with Vlade and Ana and guests of honor and thanking them for their time here in Australia over the past 2 weeks and the opportunity to help their charity. Absloutely stoked!!

For those of you in Victoria big Vlade is going to be on SEN radio's morning glory with Andy Maher and Andrew Gaze on Monday morning before 9.00am so listen out for that.

P.S. I also got an 8x10 signed by him which i'll put up in a mailday next week

Good work mate.

I did not know Vlade was down here until Friday night at a pub and looked up at the tennis on the TV to Vlade sitting in the crowd.

A huge well done Branko! I'm very jealous!! I remember when Vlade was drafted by the Lakers - the fans weren't happy as the thought back then was that Euro centres were too soft for the NBA...but having seen him play in a couple of internationals as a very young player I knew he would fit in well with the Showtime team. I was quite upset when West traded him to the Hornets for a young kid straight out of high school and thought it would be a huge mistake...but picking up Shaq fixed all of that and the high school kid seems to have worked out ok. :D Vlade is one of my favourite players of all time.

If anyone missed the 30 for 30 special on Vlade and Drazen, do yourself a favour and pick up a copy...it is very upsetting what the conflict in the former Yugoslavia has had on those two proud nations in particular.

You scrubbed up well in a suit too Branko...much have been sweating bullets though!

That must have been an absolutely unbelievable night. It is proof of the Karma God as you getting to meet Vlade and help in the Charity auction was the repayment for all of the good things that you have done on this site

thanks for your kind words buddy... much appreciated

Thank you for posting all the pictures, I am trying to think of a bigger NBA visit to Melbourne by one player but can't think of anything better than Vlade Divac.

Olajuwon may have been here in the mid 1990s for a day or two, Hersey Hawkins also came to Melbourne. Danny Manning and Dee Brown were in Melbourne at the same time. Vlade Divac tops all that, with his personality and his passing ability from the centre position.

If there is a next time, and he has more time to do things, someone should organize an autograph signing so all the NBA fans can see him.
