Perth PC repair person on here?

Hey guys... I'm usually pretty good with PC's & can usually fix any problems they have... but my brothers PC won't boot up & we can't work out what's wrong with it.... he bought a new Mobo & that didn't fix it.... tried a different CPU & that didn't work either, tried interchanging the RAM & same thing & also tried a different PSU & still no go.

He phoned up some PC repair place today & they want like up to like $180 to fix it/look at it..... so I thought that was rather expensive.

Now...... I swear there was someone on here that did this kind of thing for a living & I think they lived in Perth... just can't recall their name.... think they used to have a pic of a Blue ute in their avatar possibly?

Any help with this?

surprised replacing the RAM didnt fix it, had that happen to me twice before and both times it was the RAM

the other time it did something similar the config.sys file got corrupted somehow :S and then comp was completed rooted beyond repair

What Brand is the PC?

You have used the correct motherboard driver installation disc?
Tried flashing the BIOS with the lastest update.
Alot of the newer motherboards have a Reset button, hit that and see if that helps.
Sometimes with older OS, they need a startup floppy/CD disc to get them firing.
Maybe the Windows installation CD you are using has become corrupt.

Well didn't actually replace the ram per se, it has 4 pieces of RAM & simply just pulled two out & gave it a go & then did the same with the other two.... not full proof I know, but best we could do really.

It's a custom built PC.

Well can't do any of that as the PC doesn't boot.... that's the problem lol...... not even a "beep"; just minor noise when u start it like the hard drives spinning/fan noises or something.

Hey mate, I know quite a bit are building and fixing computers, so maybe I could help you out if you describe the problems more in detail

Do you mean it wont boot up as in the fans arent spinning and the lights on the mobo stay off? Or is it that those do turn on but it wont boot into Windows?

If you don't managed to get it fixed, try asking at the Whirlpool forums, they should have more ideas

EDIT: I didnt read you previous post before I posted mine but it seems like its a BIOS problem, try resetting it like OutLaw said if it has a button, if not there should be 2 pins which you touch both at the same time with a screwdriver and that should reset it.

uSsed to have a similar problem with a dell gx280, just used to reseed memory and the battery on the motherboard and that used to fix it... good luck dude...

how do you know it's not the ram thats rooted? it is also possible a startup file has gone corrupt so you will need a knowledgeable person to go in through the Dos function (yes you can still use it) and replace the corrupt file

I dont think it would be the Ram because if it was the motherboard would have beeped a certain number of times

also it is highly unlikely 4 sticks would root up at the same time, as you stated earlier could help if had more detail but trying to fix a Puter by person to person communication is like pissing into the wind

most likely culprit is the power supply, he said he replaced but was it with a new one or secondhand one.

If it is bad RAM it should still boot up.
Have you tried disconnecting the HDD and trying that in another computer?

Hmmmm..... haven't reset the BIOS via the mobo b4, will have to check that out. How about resetting the CMOS?

It was with the previous PSU that was replaced for an upgrade.

Open the PSU and look for bulging on the tops of the capacitors (cylinders) and if so then PSU is wallaby bobbed. Check both PSU's. Twice mine has just stopped and twice it has been the PSU.

And I had a mate whose DVD drive had a fault and once he unplugged it from the MB the computer booted fine. But only heard of this once ever so unlikely.

The chances of fixing this through a forum is so remote it's not worth attempting, you are going to have a probable 100 possible causes and a probable 200 suggestions some from people who are just taking a stab in the dark. without detailed knowledge of the computer and hardware(not forgetting software,viral etc)and exact symptons of what it is doing when trying to start up, let alone detailing everything you have done to try and fix it by switching this and that top that off with what events happened leading up to the "Crash" I would say you are screwed.The only advice you need at the moment is get a techy and a good one and if you wish to persist then the best advice is that it is a process of elimination, rule out one thing at a time until you find the cause.

He has stated a few times that it won't boot up at all..... You seem to be failing to see that? If thats the only problem, if its fine once it does boot up or Brett can sort it out from there, it makes it a lot easier to try the different things people are suggesting to get the computer to start... Not everyone has money and/or time to find a decent Computer tech... Not excatly the cheapest thing in the world. Once again he went down the path of money and what not in an earlier post but some people mut have trouble comprehending whats written on the screen in front of them?

Not failing to see anything, just not bothering because it's a waste of time..you say he probaly doesn't have money for a tech, but you have people suggesting he sticks a screwdriver on pins on the MoBo you forget the main rule "Don't F... with 240V". The problem with these things is everyone thinks they are techies and try to solve his problem ....bad move. My Brother fixes these problems everyday total charge $20 - $30. All I'm saying is remember what the thread is about he wants to contact the guy in the blue ute and in answer to that, No I don't know who he is
