Hello fellow player collectors.

I've been Charles Barkley cards, on abd off for about 10 years, sometimes off for about 2-3 years.
When I first started collecting him i sorted the cards in order of year made, id get the year from the fine print on the back of the card.
As the collection grew rapidly i kept on using the same system, which was pretty stupid. There are some cards from the same set but in different print years(series I & II), so everything is a complete mess.
The collection has now reached about 800 unique cards, and climbing. What would be the best way to organise these cards that would be easy for expansion without having to re-arrange the whole album of cards???
How do other player collectors orfanise there cards, i know there are a few collectors on here with well over 1000 unique cards.

Any words of wisdom, or pictures of your setup would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

Well Alex, I am a team collector of the Timberwolves, and part of that goal is to collect every base card made. To do this easily I have invested in enough folders and 9 page sleeves to put them in based on Beckett order. I find this the best way as I have left gaps for cards I don't have. I have also done this with my main player collections too. Obviously with Barkley depending on card numbers made this is a big thing to do, but my wolves base is like 5 or 6 folders big, so I do understand the gravity :D

Yer i was going to do that aswell Jnr, thats one of the reasons why i bought the beckett annual, but they have it listed in alphabetical order rather than year order.
I didnt want to do it that way, i like it in year order its great when you flick through and see how the cards have changed over the years.
Also, with the leaving the gaps thing , with base cards its alot easier because you know eventually you will get it. But leaving gaps for all barkleys AU/GU and 1/1s is probably not the best idea those gaps might be there for a while lol.
Thanks for the suggestion anyways.

Anyone got any other ideas, plmk.

im in the same boat and from what i can gather its all how you want to do it. options are in order by beckett...

im currently doing mine as base, refractors, gu, patches, auto's.... then becket listing for each one..

altho ive got a couple of rainbows so its hard not to wanna show them off as one

Hey Alex, you get that checklist I emailed through a while back? That'll help the tracking part.

For storage, I'd probably split them down to commons, insert them into a folder with gaps where the ones you need belong, and then the not-so-common cards, stick in holders/top loaders, etc.

Yeah mate i got it, its finally fully updated, thats how i worked out that i reached 800 unique barkley cards.
I was think about sorting them the way you said but i hate splitting up the parallel sets, some of them look so good when together. Especially love the 1998 UD Hardcourt set.

Also the thing i dont really like about the leaving gaps idea is that i have about 800 of approx 1400 cards, so there would be a shit load of gaps and it would look a little odd i think.

Decisions, decisions. I'll work it out, hopefully.

Keep throwing ideas at me guys.

Thanks!

I sort mine according to the beckett guide - chronologically by season, alphabetically by product, numerically where there are subsets, alphabetically by insert. Parallels are sorted out from easiest to hardest - not alphabetically. Plus, i no longer run seasons into each other - each season of cards ends on a page, even it means there's only one card on that page. A bit OCD, but .... at least know what year is what. plus it leaves me some room for when i get cards i need.
