From the very beginning, the true beauty of Panini America’s promotional sets that have made hobby holidays out of Black Friday and Father’s Day and that continue to steal the show every year at the National Sports Collectors Convention has always been content. And the more unorthodox or eclectic the game-used and player-worn content, the better.

It’s the reason that Panini America promotional cards featuring pieces of Super Bowl-used end zone pylons . . . or pieces of game-used Salute to Service and Breast Cancer Awareness footballs . . . or pieces of sweat-soiled towels from the sports world’s top rookies . . . or pieces of hats worn on Draft Night remain in demand long after their original release.

That’s a proud promotional history to be sure — and its paved the way for a 2014 Panini Father’s Day creation that might just be the most content-rich promo set yet. Collectors across the country will see that for themselves next week when the promotion begins. But as something of a stage-setter, here’s the short list of some of the more unique inclusions . . .

The Cleveland Browns hat Johnny Manziel wore as he walked across the Radio City Music Hall stage just seconds after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell called his name in the 2014 NFL Draft. Jerseys worn by the NBA’s top rookies last summer during the 2013 NBA Draft Combine. A Buffalo Bills foam finger that EJ Manuel fashioned — and had way too much fun with — during the 2013 NFLPA Rookie Premiere. The wardrobes worn in March by Kobe Bryant and Andrew Luck, respectively, during the making of the #WhoDoYouCollect video series.

We’re convinced that Panini America Marketing Manager Scott Prusha would’ve cut up a player-used kitchen sink for the 2014 Father’s Day set if he could’ve gotten his hands on one. (Hey, that gives him something to strive for when he’s building the upcoming 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention and 2014 Black Friday sets.)

Manziel’s history-making first NFL memorabilia card is accompanied in the Panini America 2014 Father’s Day set by the first NFL memorabilia cards from other stars of the 2014 NFL Draft, and those players who attended the 2014 NFLPA Rookie Debut.

As we continue preparing for next week’s big promotion, today’s gallery showcases just some of the memorabilia magic at work in Panini America’s 2014 Father’s Day set. All memorabilia cards in the set have a base version, a Cracked Ice version (numbered to 25) and a Lava Flow version (numbered to 10).

Enjoy the gallery and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of the 2014 Father’s Day promotion.
