The Optic revolution that first began captivating collectors when 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball arrived last July is still going strong today, almost 11 months later. The undeniable appeal of Optic’s hardball debut gave way to similarly successful launches in the NFL and the NBA. The obvious question now, of course, is what do Panini America’s baseball product developers have planned for an encore. Keep reading to find out.

For starters, the company is adding one of the greatest players in baseball history — the iconic Mickey Mantle — to the product checklist. Beyond that, you can expect a rainbow array of new Prizm parallels to chase, a plethora of landmark designs from Donruss’ proud past and so much more.

Set to arrive in late July, each hobby box of 2017 Donruss Optic Baseball (four cards per pack, 20 packs per box, 12 boxes per case) will deliver, on average, two autographs and 25 inserts or parallels. The highlights of the product are many and include . . .

  • On-card signatures from the top 2017 rookies in Rated Rookies Signatures and Retro Signatures, each with 10 parallels numbered to five or less.
  • Four Hot Boxes per case, on average, including two that that deliver five autographs and that deliver 20 numbered parallels.
  • Five rare on-card-signed throwback Donruss designs, including 1983, 1987, 1990, 1991 and 1993, each numbered to five or less.
  • A 175-card base set that includes 30 Diamond Kings, 35 Rated Rookies, 100 base cards and 10 Rated Rookies Base Autographs.
  • Dominators features players who had dominating 2016 seasons. Look for five parallels numbered to 149 or less.
  • All-Stars showcases a 1983 Donruss throwback design and features five parallels numbered to 149 or less.
