just picked this card up from ebay.... ive heard some discussions on here to say its fake HOWEVER i have been REASSURED..............anyone have any ideas?
The card has come from the fleer auctions when fleer was sold off. The 1/1 is meant to be machine stamped and not handwritten.
So it is VERY LIKELY that the card came from the auctions without the stamping and someone has handwritten the 1/1 on there afterwards. Also MANY fleer cards were sold with the patch spots left empty, so it is possible that some has put logos from a replica jersey in there
The seller is well aware of all of this. He is also selling it based on the fact that the card (cardboard) itself is a 1/1 which is correct but the authenticity of it is questionable to say the least.
here's an example of some cards from the fleer auctions:
When I got this Shaq/Yao a couple years ago, I was told on these boards that the it was real if it has the 1/1 stamp. There were some floating around with no stamp.
There is no way you can prove it is fake (realistically)
* Fleer no longer exists so you cannot ask them
* Upper Deck keep no records let alone info about Fleer
So essentially the only proof you have is the words of experienced collectors on 2 of the best trading boards out there. You could try contacting Beckett and asking their opinion on it but again the seller could argue it is only their opinion and not proof.
well if you had this card and he had offered a full refund what would you do?
the bloke i purchased it from does believe its real i just dont know what to think all im thinking is get my money back and call it even cause its giving me a headache !!!

Unless you are a really serious player collector, personally I'd take a refund.
Yes it is likely that the card is the only one out there, there is no disputing that and if you are a mad mad player collector it will be the only time to ever get that card. BUT if you have bought the card for the fact it's a 1/1 logoman, you cannot prove the authenticity of the patches or the numbering.
