Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

Oh god the magic are still making disgracefull decisions... There is nothing to look forward to being a magic supporter for the next 3 years... Lakers lineup looks impressive but so did shaq, Kobe, Payton and Malone and we all know that didn't go so well (yeah I know they were in twilight of there careers)

Agree that it's a completely different role for Antawn and I don't doubt that he'll thrive I just think that people are looking at him with Laker tinted glasses lol.

I watched almost every Cleveland game last season, sure he did take alot of shots because he had to, but at the same time, Kyrie/Sessions would drive to the rim and flip it out to "The Jump Shooter" (Austin Carr's nickname for Antawn) and he would miss wide open shots. For as many bad shots he missed, he still missed a huge portion of make-able shots as well. He is a good shooter, but not at great as everyone thinks . The size the Lakers possess obviously is a huge factor and will probably, almost definitely hide his defensive incapability, but it's just some food for thought.

He shouldered alot of the Cavaliers scoring last season I understand that, I just think people are expecting him to come in off this Laker bench and be this elite scorer who'll come in an avg 10-14ppg off the bench.

I'm just saying from watching him in the past 2-3 years I don't believe that'll happen thats all. Not hating, I enjoyed Antawn's time in Cleveland I'm just trying to shed some light here on the way he scores, not the volume he scores in.

Also when Coach Scott moved Antawn to the bench in the 2010-2011 season he didn't play so well. And only really got his starting position back when Anderson Varejao got injured/JJ Hickson and Coach Scott clashed heads

No doubt the Magic will be bottoming out this year. The worst teams in the L will be the Cats, Magic and Raptors. The East, despite getting stronger, also has the worst teams by far.

I don't think the Lakers need 10-14 pts from Jamison. Maybe 6-10 pts from him. Did you see the Lakers bench last year? Woeful.

It didn't quite end in the fairytale win....but they still made it to the Finals.

I think Iggy knows the system and plays better and will start but who knows what they will do really. J Rich would have had the spot 5 years ago but not now.

The nets option was better for Orlando

A source with direct knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com's Marc Stein the Lakers will receive Howard, the Denver Nuggets will acquire Andre Iguodala, the 76ers will receive Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson, and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the three teams.

In addition, the Magic will be getting other pieces, including 76ers No. 1 draft pick Moe Harkless, a source told Stein.

Sources close to the process told Stein and ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne that a trade call with the league office has been scheduled for Friday to secure the necessary NBA approval to make the deal official.

Lakers forward Pau Gasol had been in and out of talks, sources told Shelburne, before ultimately being excluded.

One source briefed on Howard's plans told Stein the All-Star center will indeed stand firm on his intent to play out the 2012-13 season without extending his contract so he can become a free agent on July 1, 2013. Going that route will enable Howard to decide how comfortable he is in Los Angeles before deciding whether to re-sign with the Lakers or join the Dallas Mavericks, who will have the requisite salary-cap space to sign Howard and remain one of his preferred destinations from his original list of three teams (Brooklyn Nets, Lakers and Mavericks).

"If Los Angeles doesn't work out for Dwight, Dallas will be there waiting for him," the source told Stein.

One source close to Kobe Bryant, meanwhile, told Stein the Lakers' star was estatic Thursday night upon hearing that Los Angeles was able to complete such a significant transaction without surrendering Gasol. Bryant is with Team USA at the London Olympics.

Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that Philadelphia has not spoken to Bynum or his representatives, and has no assurances he will sign a long-term extension with the team.

"The Sixers are willing to take a shot (without Bynum's commitment)," one source said.

Although Bynum signing an extension with the 76ers is not out of the question, according to a source, his stance all summer has been he only will sign an extension with the Lakers.

Bynum, who grew up about an hour away from Philadelphia in Plainsboro, N.J., could sign a three-year, $60 million extension this season or wait to become a free agent after the season and be eligible for a five-year, $102 million deal.

Earlier Thursday, Yahoo! Sports, citing sources, reported that talks of a four-team trade involving Howard have taken place this week and have "grown serious."

Near the end of July, Howard met with Magic general manager Rob Hennigan and reiterated his desire to be traded, and if he isn't, would leave the team as a free agent after next season.

The Lakers' position on Howard had remained relatively unchanged for the past few months, league sources familiar with the situation told ESPNLosAngeles.com. The Lakers always had been willing to trade for Howard without assurances he'd re-sign with them after the season, believing that once Howard experienced a championship culture, he would want to stay.

If that, there is talk that he may miss the whole next season, they don't want to rush him back.

Wow........ Orlando kept holding out cause they "weren't get a great deal" and they go ahead and do a deal that is probably the worst of what they've been offered so far!? Doesn't make sense to me.

Lakers may have the one good year and hopefully Dwight then leaves and Nash will be another year older and they suddenly don't look so hot lol

I don't think it really matters for L.A. Kobe's window is closing. Even if Dwight and Nash left, L.A would have plenty of money to throw at the next guy. That's what they do. They've only drafted one great guy in the last 15 years and that's Bynum. Lakers eat up Free agency and the trade deadline.
