I believe it is about time to say that there are too many clubs in the competition and very little talent to go around. I know this has been said for quite a few years now and to me it is quite apparent that the debt some clubs take on just to save face is bad for the game in the long run as we witness today.

Just my opinion.

Can you expand on that?
How many teams would you like?, Which teams should go in your opinion?

Souths will never be viable, they are there for history's sake
Easts are only there due to their financial backing from whoever they really are.

I always look at the NFL and see how they do things

Yes we are based on our patriotic status but is that really doing the game any good in regards to moving forward. I say No.

Being an old Wests supporter i saw our club go down the drain due to lack of initiative and i have never followed 1 team again.

I do believe in the decentralisation theory but to a point.

QLD has enough teams now so we need to go further interstate.

I would like to see WA come in, down the track also a team from SA (15years away at least), do you think Brisbane could support a 2nd team?, what about this central corridor where ever that is?..
Re Souths they have Crowe, so unless he leaves they're not going anywhere, same as the Roosters they Politis, Bouris, Gyngell and not to mention Packer, they would never let the Roosters die..

I do agree with everything you have suggested and NO Brisbane can not support another team, look at the Titans. they are financially void. I totally agree with WA as a path for the future, SA will always be AFL so dont go there. NT is an option if one correctly!

I always look at the crowd attendances and go by that theory particulary when they are losing!

Cronulla should be the first team gone, Players come and go based on performance, and i think the same should be said for clubs, The sharks have acheived next to nothing in their 45 years in rugby league. Consistently low crowd numbers, Financially struggling, ( ooh but wait,we want to build a big building ). Wa should definitely be the next team, Brisbane claim to have so many juniors to support a 2nd team, Gold coast are and will always be a failure, and for christs sake South Sydney, I can not agree anymore with your statement of, they are there for history's sake. Another team that has done nothing since their re-inception.

yeah its a bit rich, apparently the nswrl tolerated the dullbogs huge period of inactivity from 1938-1980. maybe we just need to rort the salary cap to become competitive.

I just LOVE it when you guys bite. Fair argument Curtis, but premierships in 1938 and 1942 must count for something...

If it wasn't for Souths and the Roosters, the Broncos, Knights, Titans, Cowboys, Warriors, Raiders all wouldn't have a comp to play in. Suggesting that 2 of the biggest backed, supported and watched teams shouldn't be in the comp...well. As for the Sharks, the poor bastards are copping it from everyone at the moment about dying/relocating. I know what that's like...it's like a kick in the nads, a poke in the eyes and a punch to the guts every five minutes of an NRL season. Personally, they are a weak link - at the moment. For a while I advocated their demise until a co-worker, well in to his 40's said to me he doesn't talk footy anymore because it makes him sad when he does, because people always say about the Sharks dying. And I think that's pretty s#it that a bloke can't like his footy because of that. And their fans, their history and their loyalty make 'em worth fighting for. So...they haven't won a comp in 40+ years. I ain't seen the Warriors, Cowboys or Titans win one either. The newspapers have turned RL in to this warfare thing where you have to deride or 'hate' other teams with their headlines. The best thing about RL is I can go to a Roosters vs Souths game, walk in and out not fearing I'll get knifed or hassled by opposition fans and see heaps of fans from either side walking home together, getting in cars together for drives home and sitting in pubs together without fighting. This is something the NRL should embrace...togetherness.

And I think there should be 20 teams myself. If the NRL could get's it ship righted and expand in to WA, and even Adelaide, grow their markets and make enough money in the game to encourage those kids going to AFL and RU to stick or come to NRL, the better. In fact, I want to see a CC Bears, Central Qld, (Western) Brisbane (Bombers), Perth and PNG team in the comp. The problem is the money. And when you think about it, if News Ltd hadn't systematically raped the game for $8million a year, deliberately held down TV revenue with Ch 9 via colluding with the NRL and the ARL hadn't had a million different depts all with their own budgets and slush funds, then I reckon there would be a far more professionally run code and clubs earning their keep through TV and radio and internet and proper NRL sponsorship.

And I'm not sure if American sport is as great as it seems. In the NBA, when have the Golden State Warriors, LA Clippers, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards or Memphis Grizzlies been that much chop? When I think of NBA...I think of Knicks, Bulls, Lakers, Celtics, Nets... Same with their NFL and Baseball. Plenty of their teams just make up the numbers. At least the NRL, with all its salary cap and transfer gripes, has balanced the teams out and the footy is pretty good actually.

Don't forget 1980 as well,that was the first grandfinal I ever went to; I was only nine years old. I don't know about anyone else but I still miss the Bears and the Magpies running around, but really I don't want any of these teams to go. I think the NRL should expand if and only when it is strong enough to do so. If any club has fallen on hard times, it should be helped out by the NRL and all of the clubs because you never know when your club falls on hard times. Look at Manly; Manly used to be the richest club in Sydney and at the moment they are struggling.

you probarly havent got the slightest idea in what thew club is trying to do at the moment

I like all the teams. Before Super League, I loved all the teams, but it has taken me a while to forgive and forget. But talking about 'killing' teams is crap. At worst, relocate if done properly so the fans who love the team where it is now can still follow it and aren't lost to the game, a la Wests and Norths fans who I feel are dudded.

And relocating teams, I'd even say Souths too if the deal and money was right.

People say the Northern Eagles playing on the central coast was a dud, but i feel this was more to do with only playing half there games there. If they had played all games there I think it may have been more accepted.

I really do think the central coast should be one of the next teams in.

There are too many teams in syd/nsw. Your team still fails to compete on the field. Lacks funding etc. Thus i think they should be one of the teams relocated,

I have no problems with any of the current teams. As long as they satisfy NRL requirements in terms of media and ground size PLUS they are financially viable, then who cares. If we are to base on performance and the poor Sharks lack of then why shouldn't St George got the a$$ as it took them ages to break the drought. Or Parra with their 26 year drought. Didn't an AFL team in the last few years break a 70 odd year old drought?
As for extra teams, they need to be solid in terms of support which tends to be the Central Coast or Brisbane. I'm also good with Perth, Adelaide, PNG or a second kiwi team. As for NT, with a population of only 125 000, I doubt it will ever see the light of day
In terms of playing talent, the problem is our salary cap can't compete with the Poms so a stack of prospective first graders are overseas. Surely there is 2-3 squads of 25 Aussies playing overseas at any time

I agree that the NRL Commission should ensure the strength of the current teams before expanding. When they aree ready to expand, I see Perth and Brisbane II as the best options. An 18 team comp (maybe 2015) and see how that runs for a while.

I don't agree that quality of players is an issue, there seems to be plenty of good players to go around, and if the Commission looks after grass roots footy, that will always be the case.

last 10 years? we have been equal 1st played in 2 major prelim finals

i know the results havent been too good last couple of years but the change in leadership has been great for the club and have kept it going
your not sure what the club knows what its doing?? is a garbage statement and once again prove your knowledge is limited

also lacks funding? yes due to past management but we have one major advantage over the other sides we do OWN our home ground and the surrounding area? thats why they are looking into developing it

but yeah the sharks are a easy target for people like you who just assume the league would be better off without them
also if there is no sharks where are you going to poach more local talent from like mitch brown and bryson goodwin both cronulla juniors
