NRL 2018 Elite Discussion Thread

I'm liking the single Ruby's... nice that they listened on this one, well done. Gives the hobby a boost with more trading and more of an incentive to buy packs .
 

The checklist said there's one card for each team's player of the year (basically a fancier Club Hero) plus 6 Dally M awards.

So I'd say the last 6 are Dally M, Rookie, Point Scorer, Try Scorer, Provan-Summons and Coach? Though I could see them going Female player and/or Holden Cup player over the scoring accolades.

So, ~1100 cards in the set.

From the flyers, the base cards look nicer than the parallels and the Silver/Gold YG/LS look better than the Black. Sounds like they took on board that the 2013 Elite YG/LS design has been one of the nicest but they just applied it the wrong way around!

On the plus side, the Mojos appear to be so hard to differentiate that only one team set should suffice. I think they should have stuck with red/blue/green/etc base-colour cards. Having them look like previous years Silver //s seems to be a let down.

16 box cards, so a minimum of 2 cases to put a set of those together.

Bigger is not always better!

I think the sets are becoming so daunting to even contemplate that some collectors will not even bother.


PS: Maybe they should have another set for old school collectors - 224 cards (13 players per team plus a logo/checklist) - all action/game shots with crowds in the background (no photoshopping because it wasn't around old school times), players numbered randomly (not ordered in teams) and no $%^$ inserts!

….OK, maybe a sticker or 2.

What will the criteria for the "10th commons" be? Will they pick by a category eg captains or just randomly?
 
I see this to be an interesting collection
Bigger than Ben hur perhaps? Making up for what was missing from traders?
A combination of new ideas maybe?

A lot of maybes which I do hope will make it succeed .

I do like the golden ticket and the use of part of a footy ball for a card. This has happen with a few things, but not with cards.
Mojo ruby one card in each box, I see people think this is bad. But I see this is an opportunity for all of us to be able to go back to basics and wait for it ... trade!! What a novel idea! You see it already with @joeyhonson and his trade threads. Maybe this one a bigger scale.
 

I'm up for a retro style base set, with background images. The old cards are still so good to look at.

Just don't get a 2015 game used ball in a 2018 set.

Fingers crossed the Master/Apprentice for Souths is Sutton/Murray, but then again they generally try not to double up on players with the signatures and lower inserts but I'd rather have the signature.

Definitely a retro looking set - with the background images. Even to look at this week’s PIF card - it just looks so much better with a tackler in the shot. I want the cards to capture memories...
