I remember when Exquisites were being released each year and none of their autos were ever as cheap as what the Imacs and Flawless are going for straight out of being released. Imac and Flawless are also selling in unopened cases for more than Exquisite.
Is it because it was so late in the season?
Is it because of the saturation by Panini?
Is it because they look bland compared with Exquisite? There is nothing too new in these cases eith regards to design?
Some stos are going for less than $5.......never saw that with Exquisite.
Is it because they are being saturated with the guaranteed hits and a few n7ce patches, so everything else is 'worthless'?
Makes me just want to wait next year to buy them onnthe market rather than gamble on a case. The old Exquisites were a little more worthwhile IMO.
I think there are simply too many autos/patches for each player. Eg I collect Gervin. Flawless was trumpeted as autos numbered to 'no more than 20''
Thats fine in theory, but Panini being Panini they cant help themselves by making three different cards of him, and then paralleling them to within an inch of their lives. Initially, I was paying 40-50 for his autos, but people have started to realise their is no shortage of them out there (all up 90 autos, not incl 1/1s). Thus the price has dropped and the last one I bought I paid less than 20 for. For a Hall of Famer, on-card auto.
Releasing Immaculate so closely to Flawless didnt help the market values of Flawless, as people dumped whatever cards they had left to fund their Immaculate purchases.
The Exquisite cards in your Sig were available for MUCH cheaper upon release then they are now. Why is that? I remember in 03 when people laughed at Exquisite and the the idea of paying so much for basketball cards, much less new ones. I think eventually this year's Flawless has the opportunity to be looked at in a similar light. If not, it doesn't really matter. I'm not concerned with future value, I just want nice cards of my PC guys and that's what this product delivered. I know Panini gets their fair share of grief - most deservedly so, but I think both of these two products were a home run. Like Wattup said, there's a TON of players featured in both of these sets, many of whom there just isn't a collector base for. Unless people are putting together sets, they'll sit at $5 untouched. I wish I could pickup $5 autos of my PC guys.
It also doesn't help that there aren't any Lebron or MJ autos. Imagine an MJ Flawless Bulls patch? Prices would be astronomical. Instead, we get the unlicensed version of Exquisite pumping out 16 MJ & Lebron stickers on a single card. Absolutely brutal.
I'm thinking along the same lines as you. I personally feel that Flawless cards are a little under valued at the moment.....a lot of the cards are beautiful!
The thing that would have made Flawless a massive hit was having some sort of Logoman card as part of the release. If it had this (like Exquisite) there would have been that extra level of chase cards and the potential for some high priced pulls. They should have limited NT logoman as 1 of 1 cards (instead of #/4 or #/5) and kept those logo patches for Flawless. My thinking is that until they got Lillard on board, they weren't necessarily planning on releasing Flawless.
Aside from that, all on card autos of great players, all low numbered and the jumbo patches are second to none. Not sure about the red and green foil parallels though.
If you compare this to the Nash Flawless auto I picked up for around the $60 mark its a beautiful card, on card auto #/10 from the most expensive product this year. If it had been a similar card (think Exquisite Enshrinements #/25) id be looking at around the $150-200 mark. Either one is overvalued or one is undervalued.
The only thing I can see being the downside of Flawless is that a lot of the legends autos are starting to become saturated and the Spokesperson autos flooded the Kobe's, Davis', Durants and Irvings....which led them to be sold at a lower price.
Immaculate was an awesome release.....really like it!
I have to say, there was definitely a scurry to pick up NT cards when they were released and flawless kind of took a beating because of that and also having immaculate straight after. Flawless got samwhiched right between two products with logoman cards. I only started collecting again right as 07-08 exquisite was released and I remember some cards going for crazy money and others weren't getting barely anything and now you look back and think maybe I should of splurged $800 on a durrant rookie!!!! I think the market had been over saturated lately, definitely over saturated with high end.
Flawless was selling very well for the first few weeks, the basic autos of Kyrie, Durant and Kobe were going for $300+
But the hype seems to have completely died off, and you can pick most of them up for less than half that now. Only the jumbo patches, big patch autos or lower numbered ones seem to be maintaining prices, which I think is fair since the other cards don't really offer anything different compared to some of the NT autos, which imo have a better design
Hype has died and reality has set in. UD had only Exquisite as their highend product, Panini has NT, Immaculate and Flawless which all look the same anyways. Exquisite were exactly that, Exquisite! They had a unique feel to them, even their base cards had so much effort put into them - the detail was phenomenal! Panini looks the same - white with foil bordering and sh!tloads of parallels.
Therefore if the market is flooded, supply is high and demand is lower. That sums it up to be honest.
Definitely a flooded market. Sooooo much product this year it's too hard to keep up. I'm hoping this year the cool it off because it's really hard to maintain focus when you are a PC focused collector.
I kinda have to disagree a little.
Yea sure panini have saturated the market with lots of releases and autos.
Stinking parallels to the roof..
But I been looking for the gold /10 patch autos and have found almost impossible to get decent prices on them. Not looking for stars, cheap ones around $50 or less ( ones that would sell for $3-$5 bucks in any other release) and there is stuff all under $50. I think values are quite good, plus there are cards in very release that don't sell well too.
P.s. My PC player autos usually go for $5 - $10. In immaculate $40 plus. Flawless $70 plus
