Just thought i'd send a shout out to Hairyangryfella's motherland.

I got back from a week on the sth island today and it was sensational. A week was nowhere near long enough.

So if you want a quick, relatively cheap trip, give NZ a go.

People were great, sights were unbelievable and RWC2011 fever was in full swing....and i hate rugby.

It's a very nice country, it's so similar to Australia in ways that you can feel right at home but still experience so much we don't have here in Oz.

South island is the nicest too, absolutely gorgeous country :D
 
Glad you had a great time man. What parts of the South Island did you get to? hopefully if you made it to my home town of Christchurch it did shake to much while you were there.
 
Awww I'm touched... I've never actually been the the South Island myself, other than Nelson when I was really young, so you've experienced much more than I have!
Glad you enjoyed it though, and thanks on behalf of the country for spreading the word :D
 
I've been there around 8 time, 3 time already this year. I'll be going back again for Christmas/New Years. Love it there and plan on living there one day.
 
We flew in and out of Christchurch...some of the damage still visible was unbelievable.

Then headed to Lake Tekapu - probably the most picturesque place i've ever been to...then to Queenstown, Milford Sound, then a glacier walk at Franz Josef Glacier then finally to the hanmer springs.

All top places, easy to get too - and despite driving between 2-4hrs a day, it really didnt feel like it.
 
My homeland too.

Glad you enjoyed it, mate. Must get back to the South Island some time. Haven't been there in over twenty years.
