what are the best cards to collect, terminology etc... lil help would be great

Cheers boys

Its always good to set yourself rough goals when collecting. For quite a few years I used to just stockpile on absolutely everything by buying cheap bulk lots. Great if you want to make a house of cards, but not with collecting; too messy. I've ended up with something like 30 000+ cards right now and its out of hand after all the base I picked up. Get a player or two and just work at getting the best you can in that side o things. Some people are set collectors too. I've now got a balance of both. I collect Emeka Okafor and that hasn't been th most expensive, but I've now got the most extensive collection in the world after 6 years now. I also have some cheaper 90's guys that I collect and a couple sets. I've basically started collecting the Past & Present Elusive auto set because there are no superstars and its not going to set me back hundreds of $$ in completing it. Try and stick with something too, waaaaaaaaaaaaay to many start collections, throw heaps of money at it and then sell it 3 months later for a lot less than they paid.

Most of all, have fun with it

Past and Present were recently released and are an affordable product with a good mix of todays stars and players, and yesterdays heros.

Got a player or team you are interested in chasing?

Dude thanks so much that is a good point the other day I was like RAHHHHH CHEAO SETSSS BUY BUY BUY!!!! You have a good point about just bit by bit
Thanks heaps

Sounds good I lovvvvveeee OKC lol just right I get into it once they make finals lol price inflation for anything them and I don't mind the Knicks.... Any tips on a team

Welcome Dylan...... also set yourself up with a good photo bucket so people can see what they like of yours and it helps with trades. You have already spent $400.... hahah you have got the bug mate!
Haha massive bug... you should of seen the misses when i told her .... but she was surprisingly receptive... she like better then wasting money on other things.... I'll start doing to photo bucket shots tonight

great to have new collectors on board! would love to see what you spent your 400 on!
They should be arriving though this week ... I know already that I didn't really go too good I just dove in ....
But silly but I learnt from it ... I think I got a few good things

knicks would be a good team to pc, what i do is each year i pick a new player to pc 2 years ago i started pcing k love, then last year it was tyson chandler. next year im not sure who i will go after but i guess thats half the fun, which players do u like?? cant wait to see cards!!

Knicks is a good team to collect. Some good players on it with plenty of upside that don't sell for much, making it easy to pick up some highend cards of theirs. Amare, Carmello, JR Smith and even Baron Davis. Pick a player and focus on him. Collecting a set only lasts till it's completed. At least with a player you can get new cards with each new release! You won't get bored that way!

Love melo stoudmire... Granger .. Patty mills lol

Im pretty new to the NBA collecting thing too but have opted for the Spurs since they are my team. Thought about going for a player but all the players I was interested in were spurs ones so figured it better to just collect them
Yeah.... I think I'll try OKC ....Kevin Durant will be expensive but I'll push through.... Spurs are good

In my opinion, you need to ask yourself why you are collecting. Do you like the look of cards? you want autographs? you idolize a particular player? you just want to kill time?

Either way, I would recommend you to start small with a specific goal, like collecting a player or a set. Player collecting can become extremely addictive as you keep buying every card that was ever made. You should always choose a player that is affordable to your budget. Guys like Lebron, Durant, Jordan and Kobe are popular choices but you will find yourself paying a lot for some not so special cards, which can be quite disappointing since you may have spent a lot of money but still don't have much to show for it. I would pick a semi-star who looks solid enough to be around the league for the next 10 years, someone who can put up consistent double digit scoring but not receiving too much fanfare.

Mate you have hit it spot on with that and got me thinking I like retro cards and odd cards.... I like OKC so I think one of there young bigs would be good...
Yeah I went crazy an spent heaps on just cards n I'm hoping I got something decent lol

Most important buy what you enjoy. If it is opening packs you want then try for some sets of cheaper cards. If you want autos or game used or a player, then stick to singles.

Have fun, and we will see you around.

Hahaha welcome mate and GO OKC haha!! :D

Yep..... you need to focus on something I think. Certain player(s) or some set chases. Agree with others that even when collecting a player it can become overwhelming if you're trying to get everything out there, as it is neverending. That's why I try and focus on the earlier year cards of my PC players first and foremest before I worry too much about all their other cards.

Whatever you decide, best of luck and welcome to the hobby! :D
