New Car

if you had a choice what car would you choose?????

my wife and i are looking at getting a new car (some sort of sporty hatchback), wifey really likes the ford festiva xr4....................i am more partial to either a subaru wrx or a volkswagon golf Gti.

there are a few others we will look at , but just wanted some suggestions or personnal experiences with some of these.

other cars we will look at are , mazda 3 , mitsubishi colt ralliart , mini cooper S ,

let me know your opinions

Any of those come in hybrid

Why anyone that doesn't need to tow a horse float, boat, caravan etc and needs a V8 does't make much sense to me.

Richo, we looked at similar cars in Feb this year and ended up with a new Hyundai Santa Fe (7 seats)...they also rated very well in the RACV Car of the year awards.
It's a great car!

New car? That's definitely next on my book.

Unfortunately though, I may have to give up this addictive hobby & my diecast aircraft hobby as well to help me financially, because I am saving up for 06 or 07 Lotus Elise. I've been a fan of the Elise range and I thought I'd spoil myself for once, after looking after my family and girl, before looking after myself; in regards to spending.

I'm still young and when it's time for me to have a family, then I will most definitely consider a HOT looking family car. 'Til then, Lotus Elise is tattoo'ed on me.

As for your situation Spree Fan, Volkswagen or Mini Cooper are sweet cars.

IMO, the new Civic Type R, is sort of like a hatchback type of car with an awesome interior and beautiful handling. Otherwise, I've always liked the look of those Dodge Caliber, which you can grab, at around mid $20 G's new to second hand, low km's.

Can't go wrong with Mazda. Since there are no Toyotas on the list, Mazda would be the next best thing.

firstly, how much is ur budget? it seems like it ranges from the low $30s to high $40s.

i have owned a my99 wrx, it was nice, but i didnt like the quality issues. they have gotten better tho. currently have an s2000, best car so far that i have owned.
my friend has a 05 mini cooper s jcw for sale. he wants $42k for it. if ur interested i can pass along his details.

as far as the list goes, it depends on what ur looking for, if u want refinement, then the golf gti is the one to get. very nice drive, easily modified with an apr chip and exhaust.
the wrx is also a good buy.

the new civic type r is very good as well, they r going for about $43k out the door, but im not sure if u like the styling.

henkita, the lotus elise is a great track car, but its very difficult to live with day to day, and if u suffer from any injuries from sport, then getting in and out will be a pain in the arse.

or if u like to have fun, then this is what my brother is getting around in atm

Long time no see. How you doing?!

In all honesty, the S2000 was actually my second choice, if my plan to get a Lotus Elise fails for whatever reason. Such a co-incidence that you own an S2000, if you don't mind, maybe you can share with me, your experience so far with the S2000. Being a Honda product, I assume that the S2000 are quite reliable and is fitted with a great engine maker.

Is that your car, in your avatar? It looks great in yellow. I was thinking of getting mine in silver, if I decide to get one. It did convince me at one stage, because it is much more affordable than the Lotus Elise but I just love the super handling of the Elise.

Luckily, I don't play any sports nowadays, because my life has been busy with work, family and partner commitment and me being only 5'7, so I'm hopeful the Elise should be fine for me but I appreciate your feedback and believe me, you aren't the only one who says so; re: not your everyday type of car to drive.

ive had my s2000 for 6 years now. just clocked over 105k km, and it hasnt missed a beat. i have not had 1 major mechanical issue. i had the clutch replaced under warranty for a known issue. servicing has been great, i took it to my dealer for the warranty period, but becasue i was good friends with the service dept, i got my servicing a little cheaper than stealership rates. i then took it to an independent honda guy that used to run the honda service dept that i took it to, so i didnt miss a beat.
pricing for servicing was pretty good, minor services, eg 10k km cost me $120, when a stealer charges about $300. and the majors 40k km cost me $400 when stealers charge about $900.
it is fuel efficient, and i drive it everyday from manly to newtown. people go on about the lack of torque, and the need to rev the guts out of it. i disagree, in traffic, its like driving a civic, or any 4 cyl car, u just putt along. if the road opens up, then u drop down a gear or 2 and let it rip.
i have taken it to wakefield and managed to get a 1.15s out of it running street tyres. on the otherhand, my brothers evo runs a 1.10s.

it always receives high ownership satisfaction ratings from all the surveys, and i cant fault it. my only problem is deciding on my next car.

of those i would pick the mazda 3, very stylish. wrx's are too common now.

thanks for all the input guys

after looking around half the day we still haven't made up our mind, after driving so many cars in my time, i did like the festiva xr4(first time i have driven one)
i have driven a ton of wrx's and as for today's drive, they are awesome.

the golf gti is great too, just seems so smooth and effortless, but not as much ooomf as the rexxy.

we went to test out a mini, but they didn't have a cooper S as a demo, so didn't waste our time.

i like the idea of the civic type R, must go look at one next weekend they are also on sale for $39,990
