NBL Preseason Blitz in Brisbane

How good was it to have the NBL preseason tournament over 3 days in Brisbane!! I was a huge fan of the NBL in the 90's, every team had at least 2 marque players and it was exciting! Had a blast watching all the teams play and had an even better time picking out the former NBL Legends in the crowd. After the games I went and had a chat with the lads and talked about the good ol days when Leapin Leory was the King of basketball and Gaze was dropping 30 points a game. Brought back memories seeing these guys. Even met Josh Childress had him sign my mini basketball Thought I'd share a pic with any NBL fans

I was really surprised to see a lot of young guys I actually thought I was watching division one games, of course playing at a much higher level. But boy I was impressed with the athleticism!!! So many of them can jump through the roof!!! Look out for Jordan McRae from Melbourne United, he was drafted by San Antonio 2nd round 58th pick, he tore up the Kings with 28pts!! Lots of nice imports this season.

Remember Calvin Talford? Goodness he was unbelievable!! He was an import with the Tassie Devils I think around 94 or 95? He didn't stick around for very long in the NBL but he was outstanding and had massive hops! Tassie fans were always very supportive of their team which makes me wonder why so many teams have folded, negligent management?

I remember talford, he scored 50pts in his NBL debut. I think he had no legs.....just springs from his shorts to his shoes.

Talford was a beast, he would do some silly shots now and then and drive you up the wall but then would drop one of those huge dunks and win you over again, their was a lot of unhappy people when we let him go, our import after him tanked Badley if i recall, we always sold out, so it must have been very bad management, was a pitty because when we folded our team was just starting to win, and had a lot of good young talent coming thru from Andrew Stewart to David stiff, hopefully some new local Heros to cheer for soon. I even remember buy a pack of nba cards out of a machine back then at the DEC so maybe if the NBL takes off again it will make nba cards easier to get.
