Hey guys,
This may sound like a stupid question but I'm new to collecting NBA cards and was wondering if the autograph cards are hand signed by the player? Also are the memorabilia cards game worn materials? What would be my chances of getting one of these cards? Thanks :)

There are both types of each.

With autos, you either get on card (OC) autos which are in hand signed by the player.
OR
you get sticker autos, where the company has just sent sheets of stickers for the player to sign, then during the manufacturing process, the stickers are put on the card. These are mostly easy to notice by the shiny sticker as it has the company name/logo holofoil etched into the sticker.

Jerseys can be either event worn (perhaps just for a photo shoot)
OR
Game worn, which obviously is what it says.

THe manufacturer will state onthe back of the card either event or game worn.

There are also manufactured patches which some look like they were on jerseys, but infact, were just made specifically to put into memorabilia cards and have never been touched or worn by a player. (unless signed on the patch in hand)

There is probably more to the jersey stuff, but as far as I know, the above is the most common you will find.

No problem. Just be careful with some autos as there are a lot of forgeries going around these days.
If in doubt, there is a thread in the forum where you can post links to cards and just ask peoples opinion if the card is legitimate or not. We are always happy to help out where we can!

ANd to answer the 2nd part of your question.. YES, the chances of you getting some or many of these cards is quite good, depending on the size of your wallet and what player you are wanting to chase!

Good luck.

Unfortunately, it's not always that clear anymore for memorabilia cards, at least for the Panini ones.
Many of them contain this vague sentence at the back: "The enclosed material is guaranteed by Panini America, Inc."
Guaranteed what? Guaranteed to be fake? lol

Some cards might have a better sentence: "The enclosed game-worn material is guaranteed by Panini America, Inc."
But again, guaranteed what? Guaranteed to be worn by someone else (other than the player on the card) at a game outside of NBA? lol

Yes you are right. The statements are pretty vague at times. And I am pretty skeptical of the Jersey stuff from 15-20 year long retired vets. I mean, I wonder how many of their actual game-worn jerseys there are still lying around to chop up for cards?

Don't forget the 3rd option for memorabilia cards (especially vets)...... Bought from Wallmart!
