N.S.W......The Disaster State

Well is anyone on here invlolved in what's happening around the state? Some pretty bad situations going on here on the Central Coast. We were without power all day Saturday and Sunday morning due the the hurricane like conditions that started Friday. I consider us pretty lucky as we are on a hill and are alot better off than alot of people.
I only just managed to get myself home from work after crossing 2 quite large 'puddles' to get there. My TX3 (lowered and all!) made it through quite easily after some helpful Fourbie owners towed the 3 cars out of the mini lake that were blocking the path. Go too slow and you're no chance, especially if you have an induction/cold air intake that enters below headlight level
Woke Saturday morning to find debris everywhere, fallen trees and all. The neighbor had a tree fall and take out his electricity line on it's way through the roof of his car We are a block from Tuggerah Lake which has flooded most of the 'Water views' homes (and completely flooded Chittaway a few k's further inland), was going to head down for some pictures, but decided against it as I didn't want to get in anyones way.
So I spent most of the weekend at my brothers house (lucky bastard still had power) because I tend to take power for granted and get irritated when I can do nothing without it
Newcastle seems to have it worse than us as the sewage system apparently backed up due to the power outage (no pump operation) as well as the flood waters, so you could imagine that.

man, thats pretty bad up there. down here in melb weve had mostly sunshine all weekend. it rains lightly at nightime but other than that, nothing. hopefully it all clears up soon in NSW.

Yes don't begin to tell me about NSW.... all the calls I have taken from NSW. The Newcasle centre is closed for business at the moment.

It's really horrible to think about all the people affected.

I know I feel the same....all those phonecalls the emergency services have to take must be so ANNOYING!!

Its amazing how an area can go from drought to flood in a couple of days. I really feel sorry for the people who are suffering and having to leave there homes. All the best Truth.

While not as bad as many areas in the state. The weather really messed up my parents crops and it's pretty much a total loss

Yep, Im on the Central Coast too. Friday was a really wild night. Our bedroom is at the front of the house with a tree outside the window. I was so scared of the tree falling in through the window that we moved to another room further back in the house. We were lucky that we never lost power through the whole thing. It might be that we are close to Wyong hospital, so maybe we have a more reliable or redundant power supply. Our friends who only live about 2 kilometers away had their power all out till today.

It supposed to get really bad at Maitland and Singleton tonight, hopefully everyone by without too much incident.

I hope the Maitland greyhounds aren't cancelled.....then we can watch em literally fly around the track.

I know the Gardens is messed up, and no racing for at least 1 month.

All meetings moved to Wenty.

see......this isn't good ...now it affects ME!

We had the rain in QLD but not the howling winds. I was staying with friends on a cane farm and they cane is almost ready for harvest so is really tall. The weight of the trapped water on the cane made most of it fall flat. But I think it will bounce back before harvest time. I am in Bris at the moment and flew down on Friday night. The flight usually takes 1h40m but this flight took 1h15m due to the high level winds going in the same direction. We travelled down at 1116km/h.

I remember going through a few cyclones. I decided to drive through a "puddle" in the Telecom car was was shi##ing bricks when the water was lapping the bonnet. Made it through but the scary thing was I had to get back somehow. I was driving around filling generators to keep the exchanges going for 3 days. Saw the Burdekin river in flood and the water that flows under the Ayr-Homehill bridge "The Silver Link" in one hour in those conditions is the same volume as the Sydney Harbour. It seemed so high it felt like I could have dangled my hand over the edge of the bridge to feel the water.

I was staying in a motel while there. I opened my room up to anyone who was stuck. Had a full room until the roads opened in a couple of days. Lucky the managers of the motel were a caring couple as well.

The weather was some of the worst I have seen in a long time.

Both the Fiance and I had to drive to the Central Coast on Friday night and it was horrendous. We were doing at best 60km's an hour on the F3 (limit is 110km/h) through Driving rain, Fog and many accidents.

When we arrived I headed straight for the Corona's!

We were staying at an uncle's place in Empire bay and the power has been out since Friday night so we decided to come home yesterday.

My thoughts go out the the family of those lost in the many accidents over the weekend.
